Get out when you can, spot market energy is risky.
While the premise is great, the fact is that Texas is growing faster than supply can keep up with. I love being in control of my energy consumption and really tried to stick it out after a brutal August, but the spikes today put me over the edge. You sent out one alert today when prices were 7, 8, and 9 dollars per kWh for atleast 2 hrs. I don’t need to stress out over huge price spikes that have more than cost me all of the savings I had earlier in the year. Unless Ercot increases supply capabilities and wind and other sour... read more
$9/kWh price spikes! That’s $270/day (@1000kWh/month)!😭 This pricing model is untenable for consumers. Use a different provider!!!
Complete joke. After turning my A/C off between the hours of 12 PM and 6 PM Monday through Friday for the last two months and getting messages from Griddy about crazy demand and low wind power performance in Texas, I’ve spent the last 4 hours without A/C ON A SUNDAY, BETWEEN 3 PM and 7 PM WHEN ITS ONLY 82 DEGREES!!!! Every office building in the city probably has it’s A/C set on 80 right now. Don’t make every second of every day an issue of checking wholesale price. Get yourself a fixed rate plan. That’s exactly what I will ... read more
they will rob you, you been warned!
If you have a smart internet enabled thermostat like Ecobee and are technically savvy enough to create schedules and use IFTTT to control your thermostat when there are price spikes, then this is a good way to save money. If you think you are going to just run your house at a constant 72 degrees regardless of prices, you are going to lose money.
Griddy, I’m your biggest advocate, I know how and where your business model can benefit consumers(use it wisely). But these high prices on a day Houston is getting hit by a tropical storm...1) you would think electricity rates would be low (I guess most of us consumers don’t really know how it can fluctuate so much) and 2) why isn’t your projected prices not accounting for these spikes? It’s been in the red for a couple of hours and your projected prices are all showing green.
