About PetFirst Pet Insurance After our founder, Brent, had to put his dog Midnight down in 2003, he knew he wanted to find a way to help pet parents take financial considerations out of the conversations about veterinary care. Together with his friend and colleague Lansdon, he started PetFirst the next year in Jeffersonville, Indiana. When we started in 2004 with just two employees, we had no idea what we'd grow into. Today, PetFirst is the fastest-growing pet health insurance company in North America, and we've helped thous... read more

I have had this insurance for my Golden Retriever for almost eight years. During this time, I have filed only four small claims-all but one denied. However, in June I filed a large claim, it shows as processed, yet as of today, August 23rd, I have not received any payment. I have called and spoken with three different people. One told me a new check would be cut and sent from a third party. Still, two weeks later-NO payment. I have also sent email inquiries and repeatedly asked for a superior or manager by phone. Yesterday, ... read more
At first PetFirst pet insurance was a BLESSING for my German Shepherd Dog that had bad GI issues and other issues. If I wasn't the type of person to keep track of my money, I would been HUNDREDS of dollars in debt. At first, they were very responsive and on it. Now, I am waiting 5+ months for my money back. I call almost weekly, and each person tries to help me, however nothing goes through. After speaking to MANY people, it is evident that the people who answer the phones are just the middle man, and it is the people over a... read more

We had Pet First insurance for a little over year when we found out that our dog had to have cruciate ligament repair. The claim submission was easy and super fast. The reimbursement came as promised. I am so glad that we choose pet First Insurance.

Hello, Silke! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your experience with PetFirst. We appreciate your feedback and are sure other policyholders and those considering pet insurance will find it helpful.
Just enrolled 5 dogs in pet first since Nationwide was dropping my employer from weekly payroll deductions. The lady I spoke with made this transition painless and quick. A little more expensive than Nationwide but my pets are worth it and coverage and reimbursement is better.
Don’t get roped in by the free 30 day policy from your local shelter, there are better options! Not only is Pet First going to be 5-10 dollars a month more expensive, they cover less and have a cap on claims! After being told from a rep that they cover EVERYTHING from ER visits to cancer, I felt confident that I wouldn’t be left out to dry. Apparently inflamed anal sacs that are threatening to bust aren’t covered when you dig deep. Repairing ruptured glands is though, because logic. I know I should have read the fine print, ... read more

I got the insurance for my New Puppy in February, they deduct from my account every month, no problem. I submit my first claim on the 9th of July on their website and as of today they do not show the claim, so I have to scan and resubmit. For my first experience with this company it isn't a good one, lets see how long it takes this time or if it get lost again.

I submitted a claim that was denied. I was very distressed that I was not being reimbursed for a legitimate illness. Than something very unusual happened in the world of pet insurance. The customer service agent I had been talking with, Jeff, called back to say he took my case further and found that PetFirst was in error and they were, indeed honoring the claim. They apologized and took care of this right away. Needless to say I was stunned. This seems to be a company that does take its customer satisfaction seriously. I wil... read more

They are the beyond dishonest and will falsely get you to sign up with them and find every way to deny claims. Also, if you happen to have a pet that gets injured and it is past the 24hrs but before the illness start date they and your animals injury uncovers a disease. The disease will be considered pre-existing and everything you take your pet to the vet for will not be covered in the claim. However, they will happily debit your bank account every month and tell you oh well. Horrible company, horrible claims representative... read more
