I filed my taxes on the last day to file. When filing, I used the wrong version of Turbo Tax. I kept trying to find the free version they offer through the IRS but struggled intensely finding it. When using the free version of turbo tax, it wouldn't let me choose the free version and would always send me back to the paid version. I just want anyone that deals with their autopay billing to be aware. They have a glitch in their autopay system which I have had going on over 20 years. I had to update credit card info cause due to the Covid situation all credit cards were sending out new cards with touch less info. It's not quite trickery but it is false advertising. The TurboTax website indicates that they charge $30 for a simple non-itemized tax return. By the time you work through all of the questions they pose, the charge escalates to $90 and the only way to change that is to redo the entire process. Not sure where to start with this review or company. They are crooks and they could not care less about customer service. I just wasted over 4 hours of my life trying while trying to file my taxes in an endless loop on the turbotax website that would not let me file. Mind you, THIS WAS A SYSTEM LIMITATION ON THEIR SIDE that resulted in my time being wasted. I went to their site because we had a very simple tax return- one W-2 no dependents...and it offered free filing. It kept telling me I needed to upgrade. Never did it tell you how much for and upgrade. We had a foreign tax which I can't understand why. It went fro free to $150!!! NEVER AGAIN. I've been totally ripped off! It even cost an extra $40 just to get electronic filing. Totally misled. They offer free tax filing? I'd like to know how to get that!!!
This is scam. Ended up paying more than I would have if I had someone do it for me. And countless hours of pain with on their website. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
WORST CHOICE EVER!!! They took my money and waited until 2 days before filing deadline to email me that they needed more info. I was on hold for 1.75 HOURS to speak to a rep from India. I screen shot everything since I "filed" on 4/15/20 so if IRS has ?? they can ask turbo tax. WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE
False advertising and you won't find out that they're actually charging you until they have all your info. Of course there is no one to talk to you unless you pay an additional $50 for a tax expert
Turbo tax offers free tax filing and then scams you into paying. Low wage workers are especially targeted. I thought I was doing the free tax filing and ended up paying $43 to file for tax year 2018 (filed single, no dependents, made <40,000). I just tried doing my taxes for tax year 2019 and the website told me I had to upgrade for $60. (My taxes are not that complicated at all).
