I was treated so bad I was embarrassed I will never go thru turbo tax ever again. Tried to file my taxes for free. After spending 35 minutes of entering information and responding to questions, I was notified at the end that my IRA contribution would cost $60 to file using TurboTax deluxe. I had them call me and after an hour wait, they said I had to use TurboTax basic and not free file. Intuit Merchant services fraudulently charged my account for $ 40/ mo for over five years. A merchant services account was set up and never used. Somehow I had two accounts with the same Tax ID. I had canceled this, but never double-checked to make sure charges were stopped. Payments were made from two places, my AMEX and from my bank account. I've been dealing with TurboTax for 9 years and I never had to pay so many fees this year. I live in a state that collect state taxes so I get a refund from the state if I over paid. Well my federal refund was less then was shown on my home page of TurboTax it looks as if TurboTax was deducting the state fee that I owed from my total federal refund. Terrible customer service. Merchant services is impossible to get on the phone. AVOID!!!
I have been using Turbo Tax for over 20 years. This year they changed many practices and I'm not happy. I use the Deluxe Version and do not select any upgrades. This year I was prompted multiple times during the data input process to up sell me higher cost options, which I had already indicated I did not want. Also during the e-file process I was brought to the section to establish a Credit Karma account. There was no option to proceed without building the account. They will make you put in all your personal information, which will take you hours, and then they will have you do the things that might cost money, such as if you sell a lot of things on eBay or petsit. Then they'll want to charge you $70 to file those odd jobs and then even more if you want to put in any deductions. When they say "simple tax returns ONLY" take that very literally.
