huge pieces!! – Saburo has the best sushi for the money. The atmosphere is not the best for a first date, and waiting outside in the rain leaves a little to be desired, but if you are in the mood for incredibly fresh, large pieces, and rolls that are nice combos, saburo is the place!!!
The worst service ever! – Rude and out of hand! The other day, my mother and I went there to eat and I left a LARGE tip for what I ate there. I had ordered a togo becuase I had people to feed at home. I left a HUGE tip for what we ate there. Majority of people don't tip for togos even at nice resturants so I didn't tip for my togo. The waiter CHASED AFTER ME AND TOLD ME TO GIVE MORE TIP. THey told me that I needed to leave enough tip for not only the workers, but also the sushi chefs. Good'n Filling – The quality of each type of fish can definitely vary, but in the end I always end up being full, happy and satisfied. The service is so-so at best, but the food overall is good, not the best, but definitely a great value.
More filling - Tastes great – The quality of the food has been going downhill, especially the salmon tastes like smoked salmon since they store it together, and the eel used to be really good but was at best mediocre last time. If you are on a tight budget and want huge pieces of sushi, then this is the place to go. If you want really really awesome sushi then you should go elsewhere. Portion size is not everything. The rice is pretty thick and is not light and fluffy. Oh, and they've stopped allowing TAKE OUT orders now! Wh... read more
not a 1 or a 10 – Big ass-sized sushi does not a great sushi make. Yes, it's tasty and a good value, but Restaurant Murata dominates on taste. The soft shell crab appetizer was not appetizing. The signature roll with tempura shrimp and avacado was good. The rule that you can't order more than once is understandable, but a bit unfriendly. The wait sucks!
It's already too crowded – I have to admit that I was pleased to see the panned reviews because Saburo is already too crowded. I think the negative reviews are from those who expect the dainty little kimono-clad woman with broken English serving up California rolls. The fish is too big???!!! Hmmm, I can't conceive of why that would be a complaint. The quality is top-notch, the service is average but that is the price to pay for outrageous portions of sushi (See: Soup Nazi)
Bad service. Not worth the wait. – This place is not worth waiting for over 30 minutes outside for less than decent sushi and bad service. I would recommend Mio sushi on 23rd. We were treated so bad during our dinner that we left no tip but got plenty of heartburn. I will not go to this place again.
NOT WORTH THE WAIT – The sushi was way too big and did not taste good. For true sushi connaisseurs, this is NOT the place to go. There was no true sushi bar since everything had to be ordered at once without the possibility of adding more items later on. However, it was cheap and plentiful.
oversized and overrated sushi – This place is for the non-discriminating sushi eater that wants their sushi super-sized for a reasonable price. However, those who appreciate the delicate art of sushi will be horrified by the oversized nigiri and unreliable quality of the fish. The typically long wait you will find at the door just isn't worth it. Try Yoko's (on Gladstone) for a more enjoyable sushi dinner in the same area as Saburo's.
