Yummy scrumptious! – I for one enjoy eating at a popular original restaurant which serves large portions of great sushi at very reasonable prices. Unpretentious well describes this restaurant. If you can't tolerate crowds and waiting for food then this isn't the place for you, but don't slam it while pushing your preference. The servers have always been excellent! If you order a lot the first time and give them that puppy dog look followed by a please and a smile, they will let you order twice! =)~
Big portions does not equal good sushi – There are a handful of other sushi houses that have much better quality sushi. This place has average sushi at best. If you're into large size sushi that can not fit into your mouth in one bite, then this is the place for you. I definitely would not rate this place as the best sushi house in Portland.
ABSOLUTE BEST SUSHI IN TOWN – This place has the best sushi in the portland area bar-none. Portions are huge, quality is top notch, and you order is prepared quickly.
giant chunks of fish – Seriously. Big chunks of fish for the price. And the freshness is not bad at all. Compared with other sushi places, they generally have similar prices (around 2.50 to 3.25 per order of nigiri on average, approximately), but their portions surpass most other establishments. Because of this though it's easy to order too much. They recently remodeled (as of 10/11/02....) so there's more space and so hopefully not as long a wait as there used to be.
big but bad – As a sushi chef, I cannot recommend saburo's. For Americans who think that taco bell is mexican food, here is a sushi bar for you. Imagine sushi, the size of your forearm, thrown onto a plate hapahazzardly with no regard for presentation.
Worth the wait...again! – Saburo's is always on my list of places to visit when I am in Portland. It has become a tradition with my friend and I to go there when I am in town since our first visit (11-3-01 see: "Well worth the long wait" review). The wait...not too bad if you arrive before 6pm. I was there on Saturday 9-7-02, there were 4 groups waiting in front of us, but the 1/2 hour wait went by quickly. We have learned (from our first visit) that if you fill out the menu/order form while you are waiting and hand it to th... read more
Yes, it's worth the wait! – Excellent Sushi..Fresh,Large portions all at bargin prices! Yes it's worth the wait. Sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the very attentive chefs! ENJOY.
the best of the best – Saburo's offers a rare treat-quantity and quality. Their sushi is so fresh I swear it still wiggles a little.
Good and Plenty – This place offers great sushi at great prices. The portions are quite large and the fish is fresh. For all of the sushi "experts" that like presentation (i.e. small, manageable portions, you may not enjoy this as much as some other places. Service is OK.....expect to wait to get seated.
Saburo's Sushi House Restaurant has a 4.3 star rating with 1,765 reviews.
