Tradition be danged: it's about da FOOD! – Stop complaining. Saburo's offers quantity and quality, not "traditional" Japanese dining. Give the staff credit: if you weren't in line first, don't expect to be served first. Good food is worth waiting for. Impatient? Watch the chefs: it's entertaining and appetizing. Chat with tablemates, even strangers. When finished, be courteous. Surrender the table promptly: more customers await. On June 23, a friend and I shared a $14 Deluxe Assortment (9 pieces nigiri, 4 pieces California r... read more

Sushi Nirvana – The sushi is excellent, fresh and the portions are large. The chef's are fast and attentive. I recommend sitting at the Sushi bar for the best experience.

Quite good--if you have the time! – Usually find a line outside, a long one! try to get there 15 minutes before they open--and don't go if it is raining, you may wait outside. The ambience is minimal and somehat diner-like, but the food is very good. We have yet to have a bad meal at Saburo's.

super size does not equal super yummy – A huge crowd is gathered outside the entrance, so this restaurant must be fantastic, right? Well, I must disagree. While many may claim to be enamored with Saburo's, I believe they are simply overwhelmed by the huge portions of not so fresh fish. If all one is concerned with is the quantity of food they receive for the price and being enveloped by a lot of distracting noises while eating then this is the place for them.

Very good sushi comes to those who wait. – YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM nearly always a line, but always worth the wait. if you're in a hurry, i suggest popping in and filling out a menu to go... they usually have your order ready in about 20 minutes and everything is very lovingly and carefully packaged. don't bother trying to call, the odds of the phone being answered during business hours are about as good as finding fugu in gresham. during peak hours, they invoke the 'order one time!' rule, discouraging leisurely meals in which s... read more

Sushi not service – One time order! That's right, you had better order all the sushi you want the first time or else you won't get it. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes for a table. And make sure to get your name on the waiting list right when you get there!! Good sushi, horrible service.

So good no advertising necessary – This place ROCKS. You will need someone to take you there if you have never been. No sign and no outward appearance that this is even a restaurant make it a difficult place to find. The reason.....folks line up as much as an hour before opening to ensure getting in. From opening until closing the best sushi restaurant in the land is PACKED. Portions are large, fish is fresh and wonderfully prepared and the cost is reasonable. Come as you are, this place spent all its money on the quality of... read more

what's all the hype about? – I have dinned at Suburo's on several occasions and havenever been pleased with the service or the food. Yes they have large portions, but large portions of very bad fish. It is not fresh nor as creative as you see in many other fine sushi restaurants around Portland. I am perplexed at why so many people gush about how wonderful this place is. You wait outside for an eternity only to be seated rudly, ignored, and finely served below average food at an above average price.
