The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod. Not good. After waiting outside for 15 minutes which was not a big deal then we get seated. It took forever for the waitress who's name was Nikki to take our order. After taking out order we waited 45 - 1hr to get our food cause the waitress was all over the place. During eating she was a space cadet who never came to check on us when we needed things. We were in Huntington Beach for the Vintage VW Buses car show. Went to Ruby's for lunch. The food was good, my brother's pineapple shake was awesome, the staff was friendly and the view was spectacular!!!

Love the food and being able to look out at the ocean while I eat. Had a short wait to be seated but the staff was very nice and did a great job. I look forward to eating there every year.
Waiting time is extreme even for something as small as a to-go milkshake.
It has a great view, but that's about it. The service was mediocre. Our server was very short with my husband and I (not a very cutomer-service oriented person). The water glass was not properly washed and when I asked for a new glass, the server acted as though I was bothering him. The french fries were cold, and after the water glass response I didn't even want to bother with the cold fries issue...
Awesome place! Awesome atmosphere! Delicious food!
We have been coming to Ruby's Diner on the pier for at least 20 years every time we come here on vacation. We brought our children when we came to visit my inlaws in Huntington Beach. We even have brought our grandchildren. My wife and I made it a tradition to come on Friday morning to take a walk on the pier and eat breakfast at Ruby's before heading back to Texas. We always plan on coming back so we hope you keep your doors open for many years to come.
