The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod. My daughter,granddaughter and myself recently had lunch at Ruby's on the pier at Hunnington beach and it was an Outstanding experience. Not only the ambiance ( red ,white and black 50s diner. So cute) but the staff, the view,and the food were EXCELLENT. We were on vacation for a full week in the area..stayed at Disneyland resorts..also California Adventures..Universal Studios...and Ruby's Diner was by far and away the best good and fun dining we had. I grew up here and have always loved it. It does seem like the it has gone down. Service was really bad yesterday. Hair in my French fries. There were 4 of us and only brought out 3 meals and had my friends meal come out when we were almost done. And it was a salad! Then when I was finished the waitress picked up my plate and dropped a dirty napkin in her salad so she stopped eating it. Man I was disappointed but I saw dolphins.
Always make sure I stop here when I come to California. Excellent burgers and a great spot!
