The idea for Ruby’s Diner was born in 1980 after a run on the beach. Doug Cavanaugh had just returned to his native Southern California after successfully restoring and running a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod. Great food, great service (Mariah was just the best!), and amazing shakes! Loved it!
Service was great but the food, eh. Toast had the smallest amount of butter I have ever seen and my husbands eggs, ordered over medium but they were way runny! And the potatoes, after being pointed out that they came with onions and bell peppers, did not and were just sliced deep fried potatoes and were gross. Won't return.
I hate to leave poor reviews.. I believe there's a reason for everything usually.. but when my daughter, her friend, and I were there yeaterday(for the first time ever), I was sorely disappointed. The food was ok. Our waitress was nice. But the place was filthy. The tables, floors and the waitstaff were in a word, dirty. Every waitress' dresses were filthy. Family and I got there 15 mins before closing after a food time at the OC fair the staff welcomed us in food good and service was excellent

The worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. The only good thing about this place was the bus boy Matt. He busted his butt unlike the rest of the staff. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE.
Had a great lunch with an epic view meeting east coast travelers! Mediterranean Salad was fantastic. Thanks Rubys!
Loved that it was located at the end of the pier. I ordered a BLT and the bacon was so hard it kept poking me when I tried to chew it.
The food and atmosphere was good. I recommend this restaurant! �
