I've been a Getaround car owner for almost 8 years. I've had 3 cars on Getaround (2 smart cars and my Infiniti g35). In the beginning, Getaround was great about repairing any damage done to my vehicle from a Getaround renter. Getaround takes a high percentage of rental income. In the beginning I thought this was reasonable as long as Getaround would support Getaround Car owners and resolve issues if they came up. I figured that was fair. They charge the RENTER for all damages up to $3000, even when it is ZERO fault of their own (this is disclosed in their user agreement that the fine is "regardless of fault.") I've never heard of a rental car company that charges $3,000 to the user if another driver is fully responsible.

I rented a car through GetAround for the day a couple of weeks ago to go visit a client outside of the city. My client hit my car while it was parked in their driveway. My client immediately filed a claim with their insurance and took full responsibility. They have State Farm, the best insurance available. Despite the fact that it was my clients fault, GetAround--based on their "renters policy"--wants to charge me $1383.99. GetAround is a great service in principle, convenient and easy to use. However, they allow vehicles to be rented out with severely problematic maintenance issues. I’ve rented from them many times and now have renters that I trust, but even now I rent their cars and there are maintenance due lights the second I get in the car. Getaround must be hurting for money because they have this new fuel scam where they claim they are no receiving the photos I submit for gas when following their end-of-trip process. I take the photo of the usually-full fuel gauge, which is always topped back off before dropping off the car. Needless to say, with the exception of once or twice, most of my trips in 2021 with Getaround (dozens) have resulted in getting billed for "using more gas than I put back." Owned a car on the platform for a year. When my car got towed by a renter, they refused to pay for the impoundment fees and refused to pay for a rental for the time it was impounded. Do not rent your vehicle on this platform, they do not care about their owners or drivers.

Would give 0 stars if I could. This company scammed me. Their app glitches and I could not upload photos of some of the damage on a vehicle I rented. Despite verbal writing of “scuffing on bumper”, I was charged $440 for repairs. (Lesson: be specific in reporting damage). Many car rental insurance policies, mine included, do not cover them given the peer-to-peer nature of the company. How does this company have BBB accreditation? DO NOT RENT FROM GETAROUND! If they charge you in error, they WILL NOT investigate or refund you. Dispute the charges directly with your credit card. The Summary: Customer service is abysmal, company is incompetent and cars are in terrible condition. They charged me ~$1,700 in fees as a result of a breakdown, committed to conducting an investigation within a week to reverse the charges. It's been 4 months and I have not heard a word! Be careful with this company. I initially stopped using them because twice I tried to rent a car that was not there when I went to pick it up. Another time the car broke down and had to be towed. Months later I tried again and 2 weeks after a trip ended I got slammed with a 28.00 toll fee for 2 days of driving. That would have been fine however if I hadn’t already paid 26.00 in toll fees for the trip. 54 in toll fees total! I paid less on gas for the rental!
