About this business

Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Underwhelmed! – This eatery is trying too obviously to be trendy, from the concrete walls to the comically disaffected waiters. The food was over-cooked and over-seasoned. Out of a party of five, four agreed that their dishes were too salty. I have great hopes for this area of Portland, and for all the restaurants and shops we hope to see there soon, but this kind of place is just wrong for the Southeast.

BITTER taste for such wonderful food – Eating at Clark Lewis last Saturday was a wonderful experience for my pallete, probably the best in Portland. And the service was almost perfect, just enough information and plenty of finesse.......BUT.......upon leaving the restaurant I watched someone in the kitchen (must have been the chef), completely demean one of the other cooks by yelling in a voice that half of the restaurant must have heard. I have never witnessed anything like this and it may be a long time before I venture ba... read more

Much to ado but.... – There has been much said about Clarklewis. However, enjoy your dining at another place. Low light levels prevent you from reading the menu. The menu has very very very tiny font with a number of incorrectly spelled words. I consider myself slender but the portions are very very very small. The service was poor. The good items were the wines and the taste of the small portions and I mean small. And oh yes, the bill was wrong....the individual items were too high and hence the total was too high.

A Feast of Culinary Surprises; A Foodie's Oasis! – Imagine...Friday night, full house, and to be immediately welcomed not only by your table of 8, but also by Michael himself! Great start. We all chose the 3 course meal: chef's choice, familystyle...a delicious element of surprise. 1: 4 unique fresh salads; 2: 4 mouth-watering pasta dishes; and 3: 4 different meats/vegetables! It was a delicious array of flavors...from watercress salad with caviar & bloodoranges, to truffled eggnoodles, to smoked paprika shrimp with succulen... read more

thank god – clarklewis is, without question, the best resturaunt in portland. if ripe and crew are just in the starting blocks, i can't wait to see how the race unfolds. the food is better than nyc because of local ingredients and better than san francisco because of lack of pretense. the service is professional and knowledgeable, without being stuffy or condescending. and thankfully our server didn't tell us their name like we were dining at the space needle. it was refreshing to eat at a place unlike any in portland. all f... read more

I'm still hungry – From a taste perspective, no complaints... great food... but that didn't make up for the lack of service and the skimpy portions. Ordered a "large" gnocchi and got (I counted) 15 pieces of pasta on a huge plate, swimming in sauce. When I complained, the waiter gave me some ridiculous story about the food being priced by "density". I laughed at him. Have tried this place twice, thinking the first time was a fluke. Won't go back!

Great new place – Enjoyed a Saturday dinner with a group of four. You will think that you are completely lost and there can't be a high-end restaurant in this dreary part of PDX near OMSI - but keep going! It was well worth it. A very interesting menu - we had to ask many questions about ingredients - but the waiter answered each and did not make us feel like idiots. This place is completely different than any restaurant in town - in a good way. Although a little spendier than Citysearch lead me to believe (about $110 w/ tip... read more

mmmmm, the food...... – i've been to clarklewis several times. the food is some of the best i've eaten, simple. some reviewers complain: waiting, reservations, service or "big city" experience, etc. . the service: they know the food and they know the wine list, and thats all i need. if you wait for your food (hint: you can see the kitchen!they are busy!), converse with your dining partners or look at the attention to detail in the decor or food, order some more bread or let your server know, if it is too dark, boo hoo get a n... read more
