Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Brilliance – I'm so completely appalled by all of this whining. If it's not the parking, it's the servers...if not that, then of course, the poor lighting...or simply the "uncomfortable" chairs. GET OVER IT. This place serves the best food in the city, hands down. If you can't handle it, go elsewhere, and save the seats for the rest of us. It is simply incredible, unpretentious Italian food in an unconventional setting..served up by a kitchen staff that clearly has a deft hand and an inpeccable sense of taste. In fact, every... read more
Money can't buy taste – I gave clarklewis several chances. I really wanted to like it, but even with the half off discount provided by my dining companion the food was seriously overpriced. The portions were tiny, the space was so loud it was very hard to hear anything, the service was spotty and the drinks were weak! Was there anything good about my experience at clarklewis? Well the desserts were OK, but that is certainly not enough to bring me back. Another thing: you should not support an egomaniac chef who treats his sta... read more
Trendy and good – Clarklewis lived up to its reviews. Scene was very active and the food was very good. Helpful waiter made great recommendations. Small plates give you the option to sample many different items.
One of the best! – Went here with my husband for dinner and was impressed with the quality of the food. We ordered the mussels, salad, soup and fish. All were absolutely delicious. We really enjoyed their style of ordering food - it makes it so that you can customize the meal to your liking. The only thing I was disappointed in was their dessert - it was not that good. We definitely look forward to our next meal there.
Italian rustic must mean peasants portions. – The space incorporates high warehouse ceilings/exposed pipes/air ducts. The furniture is dark cafe style chairs/tables - uncomfortable. The rooms barely lit and the noise from the nearby conversations echo like at concert. The wait staff is from royal decent as they are far more important than you. We had to beg our waitress for a drink and she couldnt describe the food to save her. The menu is hard to understand offering prices by Small/Large/Family. Its complicated and should b... read more
Don't waste your time or money – Too many great restaurants in Portland to waste time and money going here. First time I've ever spent $25 for dinner (no alcohol) and stopped to get a McDonald's hamburger on the way home. Service was horrible and she didn't know the menu.....small portions, even when ordering the "large" plate. Oh yes, forgot the nice warehouse view.....anything positive here? Nope.....won't recommend to anyone. How this was rated so highly is beyond us. Now I know why you can't recognize who the waiters are... read more
Good food, too much attitude, not all that... – Problems--and attitude issues--started for my Girlfriend and me when they tried to seat us behind a big pillar at a tiny old rusty garden table with a white cloth (very chic). We had reservations and they had open tables by the window. We politely requested a move, and were curtly informed that they only had four-person tables by the window and they reserved them for parties of four. End of story. I begged our server to intervene, and they reluctantly moved us. The menu is too ... read more
mediocre – I finally got around to trying Clarklewis... I figured by this time they would have been able to work out any kinks that can plague a new restaurant. Well, sadly many kinks remain and seem alive and well. I would say the service was the biggest dissapointment. My waitperson seem to know next to nothing about the wine list, and instead of enlisting the help of a co-worker just guessed at what I might like. I was never asked about my meal once it was delivered, and I had to waive for my waitperson's attention at the... read more
Horrible service!!!! – Do not go to this retaurant if you expect good service. We were charged for 2 bottles of wine, when we only had one bottle. The server rolled his eyes at us when we pointed out the mistake, grabbed the check, and walked off. The server never apologized and even sent over the bus boy to drop off our corrected check. We spoke with the manager before we left, but he didn't seem to care either. How rude!
