About this business

Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Pretty Good if you only eat a few bites per meal – I ordered a "large" ravioli and got FIVE small pieces of ravioli on a big plate for $15. it was like the typical a tiny-portion-on-a-big-plate snooty restaurant joke you see on television. This definitely was not a "healthy portion." There was some sauce to fill some space on the plate as well. It tasted pretty good but was not remarkable. Our server was not very friendly or helpful. didn't check on us at all. I was gonna order a few more things (because even with an appetiz... read more

The food sucks – The food is awful. I have been there four times and each time the food is just terrible. The portions are sooooo small yet expensive. The food is almost always salty which I don't quite understand. I only go for the trendy scene. Great atmosphere..but I highly suggest eating something before you come.

Fantastic food! – ClarkLewis is one of my favorite restaurants in this town. Yes, it's dark in the center of the restaurant, away from the candles, and yes, the prices are a little steep. But the food is fantastic, and I've never had a problem with the service. I take friends there from out of town because it's unique for Portland, and delicious!

Not Worth the Hype – We spent $99 so that we could have a pretentious waiter bring us two, count-em, two scallops (we got the large! not the "family" size), naked tuna on a plate (veggies would have cost extra) and several glasses of wine. Although the measly portions we got tasted good, what a ripoff! And you are not paying for location -- the open garage door windows are right on the street, and the cavernous former garage definitely had room for the old trucks that have been moved out for this new so-called hot spot. You ... read more

Are you kidding me? – this was by far the worst experience in "fine dining" I've ever experienced. The service was average but friendly. The food was average not to mention salty. And the value was welllllll below average. 6 people dined and paid over $900 with only a small amount of alcohol and most people leaving hungry. Not worth it. I don't mind spending the money for a good meal, but this was not even close to being worth it. Never dining there again. There are too many great restaurants in this down to eat there.

Stop the Bitching good food was Found here – Stop the bitching. we went last Friday night with reservations, were promptly seated, had good cocktails, an attentive server, great food, and an overall good time. My wife and I both had the Price fixe chefs selection and had some good eats off of that. I was stuffed after the four courses and was ened up spliting a dessert The portions were decent size. I think people don't understand a healthy portion size. The food was always hot and the server did a great job of describing ea... read more

Boring, Pretentious, Californication – Completely unremarkable service. The food tasted predominantly of table salt and the wine list had to have been designed by someone from beer country. The positive reviews here, which are few, keep mentioning restuarants in SFO and NY. These cities have the same boring, stuffy, and predicatable eateries. Just because a restaurant in Portland Oregon puts a twist on the name of an item and the patron tastes a new spice, this does not mean the food is "gourmet northwest cuisine" although s... read more

Disappointing... – My wife and I were entertaining some out of town guests who had flown in from SF. We decided to try out "Portland's new dinning gem". Unfortunately Clark Lewis did not live up to all the hype. The food was over priced as well as mediocre, and the staff was arrogant. I don't mind paying a good meal, however I do not like being taken advantage of. Dine at your own peril.

Great but what about the wine – I have been here 3 times and think the food is among the best in Portland. The thing that absolutely floors me is the absence of Oregon wines. It just shows a complete lack of understanding of wine and food pairing, Oregon wines and wine in general. I also find it interesting that people call this Italian cooking and yet I find it much more Northwest, creative and it begs out for more delicate wines than many of the young Borolo's and Barberescos on the list. I just take my own wine when I go,... read more
