About this business

Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Sorry to see what has happened to Clark Lewis – Wow, what went wrong? We used to have good times. great wine, good food, here. We loved the urban decor and cool management and wait staff. Then got busy for a while and finally got back to Clark Lewis. I had planned to bring a bunch of guests there over the next few months so it was an incentive to check it out and remind myself of why I liked the place. I'm so glad I did.It was awful. Everything seems different. First the wine was expensive and bad- so bad we couldn't drink a... read more

FENOMENAL! – We haven't been to all the restaurants in Portland (not yet ;) but this place is definitely our very favorite so far. The menu was very impressive, food wonderful, and the staff was very professional, polite, and well familiar with every single detail on the menu. Great experience! Just booked another dinner for a party of 10 as I want all our friends from San Francisco see that we have better food here in Portland, and for less money!

The best of everything. – My friends and I decided on a whim to meet after work and enjoy a great meal, we are total food snobs and knew that clarklewis would not disappoint. We attacked the drink menu first and my choice the French Leave. Sparkling and fresh, a simple and classic mix of lillet and soda and syrup. Delish! It was indicative of what this place does best- they keep things simple yet inspired and let the ingredients sing. We decided right away to each order the chef's special this way we could get down to gabbin... read more

fantastic food! – Dinner this past weekend was to die for. We started the night with a little bit of everything. We had many things from the starters and salads. Shared a pasta course and all had entree's. My favorite was my partner's tuna with chick peas. A must - is an order of Tipsy cake. Cute name for a serious dessert. We ordered so much food we should have invited more people. Although a group of 4 cleaned our plates. This place is worth the trip.

Not worth it – My boyfriend and I had a very mediocre meal at clarklewis. Everything but the food was great - we were able to get in at 6:00 on a Thursday without any wait (later than that and the restaurant started getting very full.) The ambiance is lovely, with hundreds of of candles, and the waitstaff was attentive although their descriptions of the food were a bit over the top. The homemade bread and the cocktail I tried (grapefruit and tequila with honey) was excellent. However, when the food came it was disappointing.... read more

Nothing special... – My boyfriend and I made a reservation on a Saturday night for dinner. We arrived on time, and still had to wait for a table. I think we ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes. I may be picky, but I really don't like waiting especially when you make a reservation. But that may just be me. The table we sat at was WAY to close to the others next to it. The "ambiance" is nice, if you can get over dining with your neighbor. The menu isn't anything spectacular, small and overpriced. I ordered a pasta dish, but 2... read more

Wonderful ambience, fantastic food – We went here with our 2 yr old daughter for an early dinner. The waitstaff was attentive, the food was divine. Portions were small, not your typical humongous generic meal. Food was presented artfully and tasted unique and exquisite. With the smaller sized portions we could enjoy more variety. I can't wait to go back.

Overpriced, undercooked – I've wanted to try ClarkLewis for quite some time. I finally got a chance last night and I was quite disappointed. On the up side, the ambience is good. The place smells great and feels warm and cozy. It's pretty loud, but otherwise good. Now, for the downside. I had flatiron steak, at $29. The food was cold and the amount of food served was remarkably small. I also had a glass of wine....at $14. My son-in-law ordered the ravioli....at $18. Again, we were amazed by how little food was provided, espe... read more

Just Right! – The food and service were both right on. The menu has a lot to offer. The pasta should not be missed. And the desserts are a dream. Make reservations for one of the window seats. Or sit at the cozy bar.
