Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

I'm not really someone who writes reviews, but I felt compelled to share my first and last experience at Clarklewis. My husband and I decided to have lunch at Clarklewis with a $100.00 gift certificate we had been given by a friend. We each had an old fashioned, along with the cheese board and the beet salad. As our main dish, I ordered the risotto and he had the pork sandwich. The risotto is listed as follows: brussels sprouts, parsley root, sunchokes, purple potatoes, parmesan. As a vegetarian, I strategically ordered the ... read more
I had the good fortune to throw down one night here with a friend and Clarklewis got it all right. The service was attentive, friendly, charming even but not excessive, the food was great-pork shoulder slow roasted in their oven, the cheese plate was ridiculous, caviar, wine...too bad I wasn't out on a date. I've been back a couple times since and just love the quality of the food and the atmosphere makes me 'feel cool', kind of an odd hike to the bathroom, though. Well, it's nice, so who's complaining?
I must be the lucky patron who ate cooking from a one-handed – The food was absolutely boring and tasteless. I'm not sure what all the hype is about with this restaurant. Its in a warehouse with paper table covers. For the price, you pay it's not even close to being worth it, here is why. With a group of four of us, the most appealing thing about this rest. was the company and the atmosphere is nice and inviting there. The lamb is tasteless and was a lot like prime rib. No seasoning and boring. The chicken dish was a thigh o... read more
challenges my assumptions about food and spirits – One of favorite spots for dining. Knew their chef in Cali where he was famous in Oakland. Happy for having a chance to enjoy his cuisine in Portland. The place is noted for its quality/price ratio. Very high.
Best Meal of 2009 – Honestly, after a meal at Clark Lewis, I could have died and gone to heaven. We started off with cocktails: hot toddy and a Honey. The honey was zingy with just enough tequila and citrus to get you buzzing and eager to start the first course. An artisan cheese plate of goat cheese from MN and two selections from Oregon melted in my mouth. Rouge Valley Blue paired nicely with the delicate quince paste. Next, the beet terrine was layered with blue cheese and drizzled with a sweet balsamic vinaigrette and cr... read more
Great Happy Hour! – This place had refreshingly good service. I was pleasantly surprised since I really can't find many places where the servers/bartenders don't ignore you. We sat at the bar and had three or four great apps. The mozzarella grilled cheese type of item was great, the cheese plate was good (although a bit small), especially the marcona almonds, the pasta was nice, and the fried green tomatoes amazing, although they needed a little bit more of the sauce (more than a smear) since it was sooo tasty. The bartender... read more
Inner Eastside restaurant serves seasonally driven fare. – A wall of garage doors and industrial-style atmosphere hint at this restaurant’s former life as a warehouse. A copper partition splits the dim-lit bar and dining room, making space for office workers to unwind at the bar and for couples to dine at white-tableclothed tables overlooking the kitchen and wood fire grill. Grilled foods are the focus here from a spit-roasted chicken to a bruschetta staring grilled pears, arugula, toasted walnuts and Parmesan cheese. For li... read more
new favorite spot! – I had heard that for a large group they offer a chef's menu, which I was worried about since I don't eat a lot of meat. But it was truly the most delicious meal I've had! Basically, the chef's menu consists of a seemingly constant flow of amazing food. A few different salads... a couple pastas, (the crab pasta was the most flavorful dish I had ever had), then the entrées, and desserts. The sad thing is I filled up too early to have much room for dessert. Which I guess means I'll just have to go back! I l... read more
