Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Good Food. That's about all that can be said. – Food is delicious. The downside... 1. The room is terrible; Home Depot meets arts and crafts. This place would do well to hire a restaurant designer. If your unfortunate enough to be seated at the banquette you will be a full 1 foot below your partner in the chair on the otherside of the table. And if your unfortunate enough to be seated in the chairs be ready for severe discomfort. 2. Service - unprofessional, indifferent. Courses came out very fast or not fast enough. Waiter,... read more
Overrated and overpriced – We went there for our anniversary. Have heard many great words from our friends about this place. So expectations were high. The room was so dark, that they bring you a small flash light so we could actualy read our menu. Servants had too much attitude. We also had to feel our water glasses from the water pitcher provided for the table. I din't think it was "classy" for the restaurant with such image and reputation. The food was ok, but portions were super small. Definetely overpriced. Very average... read more
Great place to share a dinner with friends and family!!!! – When our friends from out of town told me where we were going, I was a little scared with all the bad reviews. But when I arrived I was pleasently surprised. We had a drink at the bar to start and the bartender there gave great pours and mixed some of the best drinks my wife and I have had in Portland. We were seated near the kitchen for dinner, and the chairs were a little uncomfortable I'm 220lb, so maybe they weren't designed for me. But the environment was great... read more
Not worth it. – After reading numerous accolades about Clarklewis, I decided to try it out for my birthday with family members. The ambiance was what we expected. However, what I believe makes a great restaurant is the entire package, and ClarkLewis did not deliver when it came to service. Besides the fact it is extremely dark, we requested flashlights to read the menu. The server and hostess, brought us three different flashlights (after numerous requests) and the batteries died in each one, we finally gave up and used the ... read more
Not Impressed – My wife and I went to Clark Lewis with some friends over the weekend and we were less than impressed. The decor and ambiance are very chic and we found the service to be fine, but the food was not. First, the portions are very small. I shared a scallop appetizer (large) that contained two scallops. Second, the food is very salty. Don't know why, but that is the main theme. Third, it's overpriced for what you're getting. For example, I was stunned when I realized that the bread we were ordering (because our fo... read more
Beutifully designed restaurant – My wife and I just ate at Clarklewis a week ago and really enjoyed it. This was our first time here, and after reading several of the reviews, thought I should give my two cents. We really enjoyed everything. We hail from LA. and have been in the restaurant industry for 17 years. The prices we thought where reasonable(compared to LA). The food was very nicely prepared. The service was very professional. Not overly freindly in a "Hey there, how ya doin'"hokey sort of way, but profesional and e... read more
Great lunch spot, fabulous ravioli and the desserts are beautiful and tasty, I had the chocolate cake which was served with raspberry glaze and cream, just yummy.
Casual encouraged – The atmosphere was perfect on a balmy Portland summer's eve. All the doors open, temperature delightful and even, but oh those chairs! Our dinner lasted through 4 courses and 2.5 hours, and I had to move to the banquette side of the table to survive. On to the menu: the strawberry basil balsamic cocktail was fabulous, the raspberry caipirinha slightly medicinal. Cachaca, the liquor in a caipirinha, can go this direction in the presence of certain mixers, and this was one! The rabbit liver bruschetta was s... read more
Give it some credit! – After reading recent CitySearch reviews on Clarklewis I wasn't expecting much when I dined there tonight. However, I was pleasantly surprised and felt the need to stand up for the place. I loved the Pearl-style atmosphere with the garage door walls that were opened to enjoy the nice evening, cement floors, wall designs, and candlelight. The service was not snooty at all and I wouldn't say it was rushed- more like attentive. My date and I simply let our server know if we needed more time to look at the ... read more
