About this business

Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

If you love salt, dine at clarklewis! – Vegetarians will fare well at clarklewis. Vegetables were the ONLY thing that was tasty about our $404 dinner! The chairs are uncomfortable, the wine that was suggested tasted like a $5 bottle of Gato Negro but certainly was not a $5 bottle of wine. They ruined the lamb - it was tough! The pork roast was the worst cut of meat ever! There was no difference between the Bass and the Halibut because both were so salty!

comfort vs pretentious – The food is by far in the top 3 in Portland. Fresh, local, sustainable ingredients prepared simply with perfect flavor pairings. Fun wine list also. My complaint? For a concept that wants you to be comfortable (no dress code/choose your portion of small plate, large or family/couches and open air dining), why is the staff pretentious and assuming?

So disappointed – I was very very disappointed with my recent trip to this restaurant. Maybe I was expecting too much...maybe I was expecting to not pay $$$ and leave hungry. Maybe I was expecting good food that was for a sophisticated palate. Maybe I was expecting good service in a restaurant that wasn't super noisy while sitting in comfortbale chairs that didn't break my back. I guess I was expecting too much because this restaurant disappointed on all levels. Wait...they did bring good drinks in a timely manner. Other tha... read more

unforgetable – i went to clarklewis with family and friends and had one of the most memorable food experiences of my life. the salads were fresh and alive with flavor, the greens were paired expertly with with viniagrettes, enhancing their natural flavor profiles. i had never imagined raw asparagus would be good as a salad, but i was sorely mistaken. it was simple perfection. the pasta course was even better. gnocchi melted in my mouth. black (squid ink?) pasta with calamari was beautiful and delicious. the entrees, lamb and... read more

Best bar drinks – The space is beautiful. The bar drinks are so good it's hard to stop from trying all of them. The food portions small but we were able to try many different menu items. Everything my friends and I tried were so unique and tasty. It seemed like service could be snobby but was opposite. Everyone extremely friendly. We loved this place so much that we've been back 2 times since. There's no place else like this in this city.

What did you say????? – The food a Clark Lewis was good (not great), but jeepers, bring your ear plugs. This was easily the loudest resteraunt I have ever been in. The inside attempts to be trendy, but it's just a big cement box to echos and reflects sound. I had to constantly lean into the taple so I could hear my two dining companions. When I got home my ears were ringing after only two hours at ClarkLewis. I hate to babble on and on about the noise, but it was so overwhelming that I would give ClarkLewis only a 7/10 ratin... read more

Over Rated – Went for lunch and was highly disappointed. No service, order at a counter. Very small portions for the price, but the food we did get was good. No one even came by to see if we needed a refill on our dirnks.

My Favorite Restaurant – clarklewis is my absolute favorite restaurant in portland. i've never had anything here that i didn't like and most of it i have loved, most notably, the grilled lamb is quite possibly the best thing i have ever eaten. the space is great but quite noisy, and the bar is a little awkward as a bar, but really, the food is what i am there for.
