Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

If you are a glutton for punishment... – ...this is your restaurant! I'd like to second all of the bad to mediocre reviews that are already listed here. The wait was long, the food was subpar and our server was incredibly unprofessional. My boyfriend paid $13 for a few shriveled ravioli. When he asked our server incredulously if it was the large-sized portion, she said, "Yeah. The small only has 3." He told her that it was "not very filling," and she responded with <insert nervous laugh> "Oh. Sorry." That was the last time w... read more
hot spot – It astounds me that so many people can find so much to complain about. i went to clarklewis the other night and thought it was fabulous. great place to go in the summer as the garage doors all open up providing a breezy, summer ambiance. the food is simple, fresh and full of flavor. they had just opened the bar when i went and all the cocktails were yummy. the martini with vodka and fresh peach juice is luscious. the waitstaff are all HOT and provide excellent eye candy throughout your dining experience. it is sup... read more
Yucky – the salad was floating in the dressing. there are not enough words to describe how bad it was. the lamb was over cooked, under seasoned, and sliced in the wrong direction. the staff was unattrentive and rude. we were left waiting forever, we didn't even have water. the cooks wear orange t-shirts, very unprofessional. for heaven sakes the dining room isn't even finished and it is sooooooooooo loud. I was very sad that it wasn't better after some of the rave reviews it got. Not for me.
Noisy, but the best food I've ever had! – I ate there today for the first time. The soup was the best soup I ever had. The salad was fresh, with so many flavors. This restaurant is worth going out to. Who wants a restaurant where you could make the food yourself if you wanted to? I want one where I am awed by the flavors and can get healthy nutritious food. I will go back. I've heard that it's really dark at night there and people use flashlights, so I may just stick to lunch.
How to weed out the snobs – This is an excellent restaurant. My wife and I have been to just about every high end eating establishment in town and this is the first one we've ever revisited three times in such a short span of time. The food is absolutely delicious. The servers are very nice people and it is beyond me how there can be so many uptight people who find so much to complain about.
kate – clarklewis is by far the best restaurant to open in portland in the past few years. and there are a lot of really excellent restaurants here. fresh produce, fresh everything, changing menu's, sexy staff, affordable prices, great wine selection, variety of life, modern and elegant atmosphere, ABLOSOUTLY SCRUMPTIOUS FOOD!!!! and did i mention the food is LICK YOUR PLATE delicious? i'd bring ANYONE from out of town here in a heartbeat. more salted butter please... xoxoxox
way cool – after reading about the restaurant of the year award, we had to check it out. went last night (4/26) and had a great time, even after reading some of these dismal reviews. (better brush up on yout italian) we tried several wines by the glass, two white and a red, all delicious. ordered a bottle of white with dinner. yum. they offer different sizes of items which fit into our desire to try it all. had the bruschetta as an app, small arugula and small endive salads, both scrumptious. ordered the ravioli with peas (s... read more
I don't think so – I dine out regularly with my fiance. We had high expectations for our dinner here. Sadly the whole experience was mediocre at best. The food was just ok. The prices are reasonable, but then the portions are small. Our waiter talked to us like we were third graders eating at a restaurant for the first time. I liked the open kitchen, and the room is different from most other places I've been, but I doubt I'll be back.
Major Dissapointment – Friday night dining with 3 friends. First impression - cool space, very East Coast - j'adore the roll up doors. Menu - limited but some interesting choices - not flexible at all, answer was "no," on making accomodations to people with dietary concerns. Order Family style b/c portions are overly small. Tried 4 appetizers, 4 entrees. Beets were excellent everything else mediocre to below average. Champagne tastes like Coors Light - no Cristol here. Service - unbelievably bad. Server did not approach our ... read more
