Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

more for me – I can't believe all of the negative reviews... I've been looking forward to eating here for a while and I was not disappointed one bit. The chef's menu is the way to go, 4 courses for $30 certainly left me stuffed. I also liked the fact that all who ordered it got different things, so we all got to taste a bit of everything else, plus they were able to accomodate my lactose intolerance w/out any issues. Service was right on. For someone's whose hobby it is to eat, and believe me, I've eaten at some of the best ... read more
Emporer's Clothes – After reading the glowing reviews in both Willamette Week and The Oregonian I was highly disappointed. The ambience is certainly a "trendy" industrial (i.e a warehouse with a stunning view of... another warehouse!) The food left much to be desired. The service was friendly but not exceptional. The menu was cryptic - they even apologize on the menu for the difficulty in figuring out how to order!. We had the "Fritto" as an appetizer - 1/3 of a limp zucchini fried in a thin coating of tempura batter. The "l... read more
gastronome's dream – So many complaints from other people, yet I loved it. They charge for the bread because you don't need a loaf to fill your tummy...just your tongue with which to lick the plate clean. AMAZING food. Busy restaurant and waitstaff, but worth it if you're not in a rush--why not enjoy the company you came with? We went twice during the heat wave...dessert was like tasting heaven. Very versatile with size choices on appetizers and entrees. Fantastic cocktails. All the yummies of the high end retaurants without... read more
very refreshing – This was an upscale dining experience. The service was unbeatable and the food to die for... The only thing missing was aircondition, or at least a few well placed fans. It was 107 degrees today
well...actually pretty damn good – After reading all reviews we decided to go anyway. Our server was spread slightly thin but, was very knowledgable and friendly. The portions were VERY small for $9...and I do agree that the prices for bread were over the top, but the food was amazing. Since I don't go to trendy, expensive restaurants often, as I work in the biz and the hours I keep are not conducive(sp?) to eating out much, I will say that I think it was worth it. I left slightly drunk (cubans are the way to go!) and not ov... read more
Miss New York? – The wine list is interesting, but be prepared to get gouged. The markup is ridiculous for this town, and has zero service behind it to try to justify it. This is a fun place to go as a foodie to simply have a cocktail at the bar and watch beautiful people trying to host a dinner party at someone else's house without enough food to go around. I was literally told by my server as I was leaving that I would have to wait an hour and a half for a table. That's kind of funny, right?
Eat before you go – Bring your wallet and eat before you go! Went for dinner with 2 other couples. Started out at the bar, super nice tender and yummy drinks (have the Cuban), but pricey for sure. Paid for bread (could've bought the same loaf for $2. at Safeway), never got a refill on water, loved the tomato and mozarella appetizer, entrees were all lousy, and WAY too expensive. Husband and I both had pasta dishes. Noodles were homemade, but both tasted like Hamburger Helper. Employees are gorgeous though. Portland's version... read more
stay away – Trendy, hip, beautiful people, restaurant of the year--yeah, all of that. We expected the best, got one of our worst dining experiences in pdx ever, and we go out often, making sure we hit all the new openings. The customer service was pitiful, and it looks like the servers are taking the brunt of the management's attitude. We had a dish that was inedible. Told the server. She put it on bill anyway. We called it to the attention of management. They said, "too bad. Either you pay for it or the server has to." We s... read more
Ho Hum – The place is kinda cute, just the ticket for yupsters and gen X'ers trying hard to be cool. Food is OK, but paying for bread? Excuse me? And the neighborhood is, well, crappy. It's the Emperor's New Clothes, much light but little heat, or as "W" and his cronies would say "Big Hat No Cattle"
