Chef Bruce Carey and Chef Dolan Lane are two names associated with top-tier restaurants of the Northwest and the duo is now the driving force behind Clarklewis. This New American restaurant joins the trailblazers of the farm-to table movement, and presents Portlanders with a locally-inspired menu that borrows international flavors - mainly French and Italian. Most of the value is on the plate as the restaurant is housed inside a re-purposed warehouse with aesthetically pleasing yet rustic decor. Service adheres to a high sta... read more

Tired of bad service – I'm tired of bad service. Where the hell is that guy? I'll let others talk up the food. But I'm writting this to strike back at Clarklewis for ignoring us for two hours. I ate at Le Pigion the other day and it was so nice to find a person who was present with us, understood our needs and then deleivered all night long. Dining out is supposed to be an experience not just a meal. At ClarkLewis the guy took our order and then we never saw him again. Oh we saw him--but he appeared to have tunnel vision. Do... read more
Viva Dessert! – I went there about two weeks ago with 5 other friends and everything was fabulous! My husband and I had yummy roasted manila clams and bruscetta with figs/proscuito as appatizers, along with a beet salad. I tried my friend Kara's grilled salmon with heirloom tomatoes and avo, Wow. I had the pork loin with roasted peaches. The pork was good but those peaches were to die for! The atmosphere was hip/modern with a touch of elegance. Our server did a great job of answering our questions(crostone?) and, for the mos... read more
Best Risotto I have ever had! – Came to clarklewis late on a Friday night. Found the food to be stellar. The quality of ingredients, the ambience and the helpful and friendly wait-staff, led me to say that it was the best meal I have had in Portland. Though i do not live in town, I have eaten my way around the restaurants of Portland on various work trips. The meal at clarklewis was certainly on the top for dinners. The risotto with salame, cranberry beans and parmesan was the best risotto I've ever had. More like an italian... read more
inconsistent – The venue itself is beautiful. A converted warehouse space with huge windows and a nice ambience. We did the family style tasting menu which was recommended by the waitress and supposed to be a sampling of the chef's choice. The pasta was amazing--handmade and with wonderful, fresh and local ingredients. Aside from the pasta and desserts (which were also superb and made on the premises with in season fruits), I was underwhelmed. The lamb was quite fatty and the halibut and skate were drenched in butter. It's a... read more
a foodies dream! – I love this place! Tonight was the perfect night for the roll up doors and industrial elegance clarklewis offers. I walked over the bridge and landed on Water Street. Called a friend for a drink and wound up staying for dinner. We split the blue lake bean salad with toasted hazelnuts and the cucumber salad proudly primped up with plain ol nancy's yogurt and dill. super simple and amazing. We had heard good things about the seafood so we went for the sturgeon with leeks and shallot cream. WHOA! Every around... read more
industrial south east haven for inspired veggies etc., primped up classic desserts and casually chic everything else. – lets stop talking about what once was. clarklewis seems to be more about the food and less about the drama and hot air of years past- and has finally settled splendidly. the only thing i miss about the former regime's menu was the chef's special, which was not only a welcoming initiation to the food, but a steal of a deal. go with friends, order lots of small plates, share a pasta and a fish dish for sure a... read more
This has got to be the best food in town and watching the kitchen feverishly creating it- is a great show. It was a little hot while we were there, but they had the garage doors open and a nice breeze made it bearable. I will be back!
Crazy good! – I have been to clarklewis a few times over the past 3 months and I have to say - it is CRAZY GOOD! This past month has been the best clarklewis has ever been. The food speaks for itself so there is no need for me to write a lengthy review. Service is wonderful. The staff really know what they are serving. Just get your self over there! They really know how to make food.
It wasn't that good.... really. – Wow. I was ready to be impressed. I had been to clarklewis before and was taking my friends from out of town for a portland treat. Was i ever let down. The salads were too salty, with either too much dressing or just bittter to start. Next, the pasta - it was really pork strogonof - out of a can - that's about the flavor it had. I also had the misfortune of ordering the sea bass and my friends the steak. The sea bass was overseasoned and overcooked. We almost ordered the chef's menu - and I'... read more
