Recently went outside my comfort zone of buying cars from local dealers and drove to Carmax in Dayton, Ohio. This was basically because they had a vehicle I was looking for with very low mileage. It was posted on their web-site for $*****. Received several emails from Carmax with the same figure in the headlines, but went to look at it and my perception changed drastically. Do not buy the CarMax extended warranties. They are weasels and will "fine print" you out of covering the repairs they claim to cover. Four years ago, I purchased my third vehicle from CarMax, an **** **, along with a ******* warranty. On July 24th of this year, my wife and son got stuck on the side of Afton Mounting going to Harrisonburg, VA because the engine of the **** ** blew up. If I could leave zero stars I would. I sold my vehicle to the CarMax in McKinney on 8/13/21. They received a 15 day payoff and to the date my vehicle has not been paid off. Every time I call I get a different answer. Vehicle was suppose to be paid off by 8/28/21 and all they are saying is, "give the check time to make it". I dont recommend anyone doing business with this company. Poor customer service and very unprofessional

I had a car shipped from Los Angeles it arrived and Carmax failed to tell me. However, they didn't realize I tracked the car shipping as well. So I called them to let them know that I knew the car had arrived. Then they started that they had to get the title. Three weeks later they tell me they can't sell the car because, they locate the title. But, what they really want to do is raise the price and resell it, or they aren't to happy because, I am not financing it with them or getting their extended warranty so no commission... read more

Worst experience in Salisbury, Maryland location. Little to zero customer service. Lazy employees and managers that do not care one bit about the customers. Incompetent. Will never ever send anyone to this carmax location.

They refuse to honor Letters of Goodwill Adjustment. My husband and I are trying to buy a house. He had 1 missed payment on his loan for 30 days. They absolutely refused to honor the Goodwill Adjustment. The Goodwill Adjustment Letter exists for a reason, not honoring it at all is simply unethical business practices. My mother, and father have purchased 4 vehicles from them and my husband 1. We will no longer be doing business with them.

I've bought 4 cars from Carmax over the past 20 years. I have always had a pleasant experience until now. The car was to be delivered to my house. Why? Because they offer it and I trusted them to provide the same excellent service I've received in the past. That is not how it went. Eight phone calls to arrange the delivery and each time with another online form or request etc... Customer service is poor, doesn't follow through with commitments and is untruthful with customers. A one star rating is too much.
