First off I will say Carmax does not stick to there policy at all, and different stores like to make up there own policies. Awful experience from start to finish. Ended up buying a car with issues that CarMax should have identified before selling. It was a complete nightmare trying to have issues fixed. Four years later - after paying off the car through CarMax Auto Finance in March I am still waiting for the title to be sent here in May and existing issues with the car are back due to aftermarket parts/crappy installation. I purchased a vehicle in Salt Lake City and flew in to pick it up. Even though I repeatedly told the location when I would arrive at the store (with previously approved financing through CarMax Auto Finance) the vehicle was not ready to be picked up when I arrived - I had to wait an hour just to talk with a salesperson before I could wait another 2 1/2 hours to wait for the business office. The service department had me drive there 3 times for a key FOB that was supposed to be ordered. The salesperson had a manager approve an order for it because the car I was buying didn't have one to open the trunk or doors. Service called but when I went to pick up was told they didn't have and it was on order. They called and I was told to come pick up. This time upon arrival was told it was back ordered. I went to Carmax 2019 in Louisville, KY and bought a **** *** *******(and just realized today that they are not BBB affiliated). I was completely happy at the time. Last week with my children in the car in morning traffic my engine blew (and yes car had been maintained). To come to find out this is a top know problem for this type of car. There was even a class action lawsuit last year (2021) for this issue that is now closed. Let me start by saying this has been a 2 month nightmare. I've lost sleep, burned up gas and wasted my TIME. I purchased a **** **** ********. The sales guy Dylan, told me the vehicle had a pet odor. I shook it off & stated I can get it detailed. No biggie. It did have a smell. I took ownership on a Wed March 30,2022. My first car buying experience trusting Carmax was the biggest mistake I will never make again. After my purchase I was excited I bought my first car not knowing any better until I showed my friends and family. I requested a tow truck for a flat tire using my ******* benefit for my **** ****** ****. The request was easy to fill through an online form. Problem arose when my initial time frame was 1hr- 1hr30min. Eventually my tow truck arrived at the 2hr30min mark. I didn’t mind that since roadside requests in my area take a long time to fulfill so I understand. I went to the Carmax in Fort Worth, Tx off hulen. I bought a car from them a couple weeks ago but wasn’t really a fan. But this time Brian helped me and he made sure that I wasn’t buying anything that was going to mess up. He made sure to be completely honest about each car I was interested in.
