Dr. Shafer must be a top doc. He has a comforting relaxed style, seems to prescribe to shared decision making, and is an excellent teacher for those who know little about bones, joints, strains and sprains. I've seen him multiple times over the years and he has never been one to jump to surgery, perferring that we exhaust less dramatic options first. I recommend him to all my friends in AZ who need a good knee or shoulder specialist.

Dr Shafer took time to explain my knee issue. Gave me options and told me to come back in a month if I'm not better. Very friendly and made me feel comfortable.

Dr Shafer has been very inciteful regarding my post knee surgery visits I have been experiencing a longer recovery period and feel that the knee will not recover Dr Shafer has assured me this is not the case and he pointed out there has been a good improvement in range of motion There is still some inflammation and stiffness andordered physical therapy has been ordered to go down the final stretch I feel confident we will get there and then return to my active lifestyle
He hasn’t changed since knee surgery for me in 2008—knowledgeable, kind, friendly, direct, and open about both of my problems. It’s like being treated by a close family member!!!
Dr. Shafer is always kind and caring. He offers different solutions to my problems. He is a great surgeon!
