The Austin Humane Society (AHS) is Austin's largest no-kill, non profit animal shelter and dog and cat adoption center. Each day, we have hundreds of cats and dogs in our shelter that are looking for a second chance at love and a family. We serve close to 8,000 animals each year through our both our adoption program and free feral cat spay and neuter clinic. AHS receives no city, state or federal funding, and relies solely on the support of individuals and businesses in our community.

This is really such an amazing place. The staff here really love the animals they care for and are so welcoming of the volunteers. If you haven’t had a chance to volunteer I highly recommend it!
I can't say enough wonderful things about the Austin Humane Society! They looked out for my sweet pup for weeks while they tried to figure out what was going on with her health. All of the staff are very knowledgeable and so reassuring when you are worried about your pup. I fully recommend anyone to look here first when thinking about adding a new family member to their house! Thank you, thank you!!
The people there are so helpful and great with the dogs. Despite being very busy they are very efficient and communicate back in timely manner. GREAT EXPERIENCE for getting cat last year and dog today!
I was looking for a second dog that would get along with my first rescue dog. I met a little guy named Franklin, fell in love, and then they facilitated a meet and greet between both dogs so I could make sure it was a good fit. Everyone there was so helpful and understanding. Franklin and Francis are getting along wonderfully. I could not be happier.
Thankyou so much for everything that you guys did so I can have my baby from Puerto Rico. I'm very grateful I can have Kai with me again. Now I feel more at home. God Bless #happyfamily
Austin Humane Society is a wonderful organization that helps as many pets as it can!
Great staff! They take amazing care of the animals and it's a no kill place! Each animal gets to go for walks and the cats have lil play rooms. I used to visit often and finally adopted a lil black kitten that is all grown now and he's my best bud.
Ten years ago I moved into a house and immediately two pregnant feral cats showed up to live under the house. They had kittens. Faced with a feral colony of 7 cats, you loaned me traps, I trapped all (eventually) and got them spayed and neutered the first year. Now ten years later, I lost one (she had good vet care, but it was her time). She had become my house cat and my travel cat - she traveled in my RV all over the US with me. Six of that original colony are still living - only 3 are still feral (but they know their name... read more
I’ve gotten both of my pets from here (a cat and a dog)! I also went with my best friend to find her forever companion! I love talking to the friendly staff and seeing all the sweet animals. I wish i could take them all home! My favorite part from my recent trip back was that they showed me the pictures that they took of my dog when she was first brought in (3 months old). Now she’s almost a year! It’s crazy to see how much she’s changed! As of right now i have all the animals i can handle, but when I’m looking for another, ... read more
