The Austin Humane Society (AHS) is Austin's largest no-kill, non profit animal shelter and dog and cat adoption center. Each day, we have hundreds of cats and dogs in our shelter that are looking for a second chance at love and a family. We serve close to 8,000 animals each year through our both our adoption program and free feral cat spay and neuter clinic. AHS receives no city, state or federal funding, and relies solely on the support of individuals and businesses in our community.

I think this is a model establishment. You folks could teach other shelters a thing or two about how to run a Humane shelter and how to get their animals adopted out. Your adoption campaigns are successful and that should be the goal...even if on some you don't make a lot, or sometimes ANY, money in the process(ie:the free cats over 2 yrs old right now)....at least the animals that wouldn't have been adopted otherwise have a chance at a good home.
The last review nailed it with "model establishment". These guys do everything right. I'm a volunteer there and so proud of it.
Edit: I applaud Austin Humane Society for cutting ties with Blue Cat Cafe. I value an animal shelter that has ethics and I would definitely encourage folks to support this org and adopt a lil' cutie! Thank you!!!! For the most part, Austin Humane Society does an important role in taking care of animals, but they are fostering out their cats to Blue Cat Cafe, where many customers AND employees are reporting animal neglect! This is p much known to most people in Austin, yet they still allow that terrible establishment to take ... read more
Our family has adopted from here 3 times now and every time has been exceptional. The staff are always very happy to help and make sure both you and the animals are happy. They take fantastic care of their sweet animals . Highly recommend!! Thank you guys again for everything you do!! ❤️
I had an excellent experience as a volunteer and eventual adopter! What I learned from their experienced, kind volunteers was invaluable and I'll be eternally grateful. My dog Rhett (formerly Dusty/Rusty) is still my best friend. He turns 5 this year, and he has a 2 yr old blue pittie sister named Shiva. If you need a furry friend or a place to volunteer and help our community, Austin Humane Society is a wonderful place!
I currently foster for AHS and love all they do for 4 leggers in finding them a forever loving home
While we had to wait over 30 mins for anyone to acknowledge us.... we ended up with a great kitten !!!!
I've been a foster for a few months and just love it! The staff is so friendly and helpful. They're always available if I have any questions. Ended up falling in love with a pair of kittens and adopted then. Adopting was a seamless process! I would highly recommend!
