I have UHC ChoicePlus plan through employer and prescription plan with Optum RX. Optum Rx requires us to use their preferred pharmacy Avella since April 2020. Optum Rx used to cover all my medications with low copayment with other speciality pharmacy. My experience with Avella Optum Rx has been negative so far. It took about 9 days to fill up time sensitive prescription medication. The customer service is very poor. This company is a sham. They barely covered anything I was paying $150/month plus some weird $20 service I have no idea what it actually provided, and then when I finally was able to cancel everything due to getting other coverage, they charged me for the $20 service the next day. I have used OptumRX for my mail order prescriptions for almost two years now. At the begining, I didn't seem to have any issues. The last three times that I have needed my supplies, they have not only failed to follow up or follow through, but they don't seem to take any sort of responsibility. I filed a complaint as well since I was told false information when signing up for medical insurance with United Health One/Golden Rule (# 15068840). I requested and was told I was getting short term health insurance rather than the supplemental insurance I apparently have. There are next to no providers in network due to this error. 8+ months later, after claims were settled, this provider decided to alter a negotiated rate which resulted in more being owed. Shady practice. Feels like they're trying to just grab more money wherever they can.

United Health Group as a whole isn’t too terrible, other than high plan cost vs low benefits. However that’s common with US insurance these days. However, their mail in pharmacy OptumRX is the absolute worst. If I could give them negative stars I would. My plan with UHC tries to incentivize getting my families prescriptions through OptumRX by only allowing a 30 day supply at a higher price at a regular pharmacy while being able to get a cheaper, 90 day supply through the mail in service. OptumRx is absolutely awful. As similar reviews have stated I was also told by insurance company that I could no longer fill my prescription as of 1/1/2021 at my local pharmacy but had to go through OptumRx for mail delivery. It has been a nightmare spending countless hours on the phone trying to get my issue resolved. A little over a month ago I was told I cannot refill my prescription at CVS or any pharmacy anymore, and that it had to be done by mail. I had my doctor send the prescription to OptumRX where it was REQUIRED to be filled, Optum says they sent out the prescription 12/16 to USPS and that it would arrive 12/19. By 12/21 when it hadn’t arrived and I had no run out of the medication, I called Optum and they said USPS had it. I called USPS and they said they didn’t have it. This company is horrible. I have never ever had so many issues with claims, with any company. I have to keep a spreadsheet of all of my claims. I have a condition that requires me to see a doctor at least once a week, so this is a lot of claims to keep track of. About 80% of them are processed incorrectly to the favor of United Health.
