I am currently filling a Right to External Review with Lisa L, Appeals Auditor, Claim Appeals in Wausau, WI. I was in the middle of my dental treatment when I switched to United Healthcare . The rep said even though my dentist was not in network United Health would reimburse me for dental care. No dentist would have taken on my case at this point of completion. However after 4 attempts I finally received a partial payment. They only paid 1/2 the cost and that is not what I was told when switching to their company. They have a bad habit of losing your claims I believe they hope you will give up. I too have struggled with Optum RX which turned into Briova and now it is back to Obtum Rx with United Health Care as their crony. First off I would like to say it unnerves me to have a call center for my prescription as opposed to a REAL pharmacy. Can we say China bought? How weird is that? I have multiple sclerosis and the medicines for this are 4000$ a month +. Copaxone is the original injection drug that I took for 10 years, but now United Health Care refuses to cover it. Just waiting for open enrollment to dump United Healthcare like a bad habit. If you need a test like an MRI, forget about it; they’ll keep you jumping through hoops til you give up. Their motto should be, “Just pay your high deductible and shut up.”

I am reviewing OptumRX Specialty Pharmacy- absolutely the most inefficient and poorly run company I have had to deal with. I belong to both United Health Care and OptumRX - both companies are exceptionally great. However, they have a division called -well originally called OptumRX then changed to BriovaRX and then changed to OptumRX Specialty Pharmacy. Optum Rx is a nightmare. They have owed me a $50 refund for about 3 months and will not refund my money. I have called at least 4 times and gotten varied responses including being disconnected 3 times. Each time I have spent almost 30 minutes to try and resolve this issue. It appears that this is the way they operate and their staff is trained to not resolve any issues related to a refund. Worst insurance I have ever had. Every claim initially denied. Multiple claims for the same thing with a mix of denials and partially denied and approved. Constantly unsure of what I actually owe. Customer service is friendly but ultimately unhelpful. Customer service is unavailable on weekends so issues can’t be resolved till the weekday. I’ve never had a worse experience with an insurer

Run AWAY from this insurance company!!! After multiple years of paying for allergy shoots for our son, UHC decided in October of last year that "allergy shots are not medically necessary" and that basically anything to do with allergy medications or healthcare is junk science. This change occurred in the last quarter of our policy year, so it was a change midstream of coverage. We actually increased our policy in January and they still refuse to pay for allergy shots. I got a quote from this company and canceled within 30 days. I just found out they never canceled the vision and dental portion and have been charging me for the last 10 months. Faxed the appeals department which ironically cannot accept any incoming calls and no one will call me back. It's been over 90 days. Total scam.
