About this business

The Great Lost Bear has become a Portland institution since opening in 1979. The "Bear" is located about two miles from Portland's touristy Old Port but well worth the journey across town to the Mysterious Woodford's Area. The Great Lost Bear features an enormous eclectic menu with something for everyone: from hearty, spicy junk food to a large vegetarian selection, from steaks, salads and All American Burgers to award winning, wicked gooey desserts... all served in an entertaining atmosphere.

Love The Bear...been going there since it was "The Grizzly Bear." Only summer in Maine, now, but always visit when in town. Was there a couple weeks ago and had my faves...patty melt, bear fries and ice cold Ballentine Ales! (At 1.99, you can't beat Bal Ale!) I'll be back in a few weeks...Keep up the good work!

My husband had a cheeseburger $11.99 supposedly this place is known for their delicious burger, not at all tonight. My husband said it tasted like a back yard burger. We sat at the bar, was never asked how our meals were. I was hoping he or she would as... read more

We've gone here for many years, we live nearby. Last night, my husband had a fabulous blue cheese burger. I had the cheese nachos with a guac side, came with salsa and sour cream. Tons of cheese!! Both were fabulous! And, as always, the bartender was wonderful! Thank you, see you again soon!!

Food was great. Service was not the best. Our waitress was not very attentive at all.
