The Great Lost Bear has become a Portland institution since opening in 1979. The "Bear" is located about two miles from Portland's touristy Old Port but well worth the journey across town to the Mysterious Woodford's Area. The Great Lost Bear features an enormous eclectic menu with something for everyone: from hearty, spicy junk food to a large vegetarian selection, from steaks, salads and All American Burgers to award winning, wicked gooey desserts... all served in an entertaining atmosphere.

This will sound like a mixed review; I'd like to emphasize that it was my first time going last night, and I can't wait to go back! I liked that the menu had variety and a lot to choose from. It is definitely not a place to go if you want to enjoy a normal-volume conversation with someone-\-\my GF (who used to go here a lot when she was in college) and I couldn't talk with one another without practically yelling, because the patrons behind us were very loud (not a complaint, just an observation). Great Food, Great Beer, Great Atmosphere!!!!!!!!!!
The food was great. My steak and cheese was delicious and the homemade balsamic dressing was fantastic!
Just got nachos tonight from the great lost bear. Thought they tasted a little off but didn't think much about it. Now my friend is viciously throwing up in the bathroom.
The beer is without peer, although I drink PBR like my freaking life depends on it. Such a waste of me pallet. Service as always rocks, The food works well with a nice COLD BEER. Luv the Forrest Ave instituion.
