Beware of Medicare advantage brokers who call and hard sell Aetna. I was pressured into giving my information to Tyler Gr**** from united Medicare advisors who assured me I would not be charged and could change my mind because the policy would not become effective until August. Aetna is a sham of an insurance company. I've had them through my employer, ******* since they changed insurance companies. Since 1996 I've paid into health insurance and I've never needed anything major until recently. I need spine surgery and, even after getting the second opinion that's required, they still declined to cover it. I had to cancel surgery on the date it was to be done because of aetna's refusal to cover. If I could give them zero or negative stars I would. I have worked as a medical biller for years and deal with every commercial and federal insurance there is. Aetna is by far the worst insurance company to deal with. They do not pay attention to details when reading primary EOBs and often deny claims frivolously. Often the EOBs they send providers do not make sense at all and the amounts do not even add up. When I try to call to have the claim reprocessed, I am often met with rude unhelpful, and ignorant/untrained staff who... read more

I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. They denied my medication, after I signed up with them because my medication was covered.

As a former plan administrator, I try and always read and follow the program rules and regulations. My previous provider (of 10 years) called two days before my appointment, that I had scheduled well in advance to let me know they were no longer a participating provider of my insurance. So I went online, found a new provider, changed them to my primary, then called to confirm that change as I was able to get into my new provider in two days. I am doing this as a frustrated Provider office. We call to make sure a service does or does not require prior authorization. We are always told the service does not require prior auth, however it actually does, and it goes through a third party ******** I tried calling today, to reach someone at Aetna to tell them they are giving the incorrect information out, and John, the fella I was speaking to apparently didn't want to deal with me so he hung up on me in mid sentence. Never ever use AETNA health insurance! Everything what they say on the phone it is FALSE! Before i switched i asked is there any deductible & co-payments, they told me absolutely not! Now i find out, that i must pay for each specialist doctor $45.00 & regular doctor $25.00 each time. Shame on all of them! This is their special way to treat senior citizen! I highly do not recommend this insurance provider. As a business owner, I have been waiting since January 30th, 2020 for this company to signed the other half of the contract. Everytime I call and ask why I have not received a signed contract or in network with them, they give me all types of excuses. I have called over 10 times and each time I get the run around game. I have never had a productive phone call with Aetna. This time I needed prior-authorization for a drug. I have had an autoimmune disease for over four years. My doctor has carefully evaluated my options, and we decided on the best course of action for me. Aetna denied this treatment.
