BEWARE. Aetna is the worst possible insurance company you could choose. If you value your health, take this as a sign to go literally anywhere else. Their customer service is joke. Nonexistent. Do not waste your time.
I would give 0 stars if I could. They didn’t approve a procedure for me because I didn’t meet all 6 criteria when actually I did. Then they gave the wrong information to my docs office about when a peer to peer could be scheduled so they would need to appeal which takes time and move my surgery date. They also denied coverage for crutches after a surgical ORTHO procedure. This was all after paying several thousand out of pocket. And we have Aetna through a large university system, and not the lowest tier either.
I constantly have trouble with a medication either costing me too much or they just don't cover the medication. I have a UTI and they won't cover the meds for pain: Phenazopyridine. So I'm just supposed to suffer? I hate Aetna and can't wait until I can get different insurance. They only care about profit.
My works health plan provides services at no cost to me to see a gynecologist and get a physical. Every year I get charged when I get these services done. I've gone 6 years now. I call aetna every time to see why I was charged, and then they coach me what to say the next visit to insure I don't get charged. I went to the gynecologist on 5/10/21 and said everything aetna told me to say to insure that I won't be charged. Specifically telling them not to test for certain things. This company does nothing but harass me. It just took into effect april first 2021. Im well into may now. They have literally called me at least 30 times. Sent me a minimum of 20 or 30 pcs of junk mail. They call multiple times a day. Leave voicemails for the same thing iver and over. Stuff I've already answered and completed over the phone. Aetna listed my provider as a covered provider on their user portal, but after seeing someone for a year, they called and said that they are not actually covered and I owe them for all of the appointments that were reimbursed. What an incredibly misleading and cruel thing to do. If I had known this provider wasn't covered (EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE LISTED AS A COVERED PROVIDER ON THE WEBSITE), I would have seen someone else and saved hundreds of dollars. Worst insurance company and the worst customer service ever experienced. They outsourced every representative to overseas, and people do not speak proper English and they don't know what they are talking about, making the already hard-to-make communication even harder (they do not know how to rephrase the terms so have to keep repeating the same words again and again). Because of this, a simple request takes an hour to get it done just because they don't know what I am talking about.
Horrible customer service. I couldn’t hear the representative and I asked her to repeat things multiple times. She never told me her name, when I asked her- she ignored me. I was explaining the reason I was calling, and I heard Snoring on the other end of the phone. SHE FELL ASLEEP on the phone. Oh where to start .....My husband hurt his foot about a month ago. He is not supposed to walk on it or put weight on it except when he is wearing a boot. He wanted to get one of those knee scooters or knee walkers. It's not motorized. It's just looks like a bike and you put your knee on it so you don't put weight on your foot. We are not 15 years old so everyone who has ever used crutches for more then a week knows that it hurts and burns your arm pits. So the Dr. gave him a note that he could get a scooter.
