About the worst insurance company I've ever had the misfortune of having policies with. They are less than honest, forthcoming and truthful. Turns out I will more than likely be filing a multi-count complaint after a USAA cited driver of a 2019 F250 Super Duty T-Boned my 2020 Tahoe LT just behind the drivers door with less than 10,000 miles on it. Let me start by saying I am livid I even have to give National general 1 star to be clear I give them -5 stars. This company sucks, the customer service is terrible. They aren’t educated enough to solve problems or even have compassion or empathy when a customer has a problem. They’ve had issues with their system “glitching” and taking peoples money ($600+ at that!). After having insurance with this company for 2 years with never missing a payment or any late fees. I decided to change to another company for a multi car discount. After cancelling and having nothing but issues there with trying to charge me fees that the new company that used them for under writing have never heard of, I get charged $614 directly withdrawn from my bank (not even the same amount I was told, $410, the late fee would be even though I cancelled within my 2 year renewal period) account with no call or approval ... read more

On April 27, 2023 I had a car wreck in which I was not at fault, not that National General is concerned with such facts, as evidenced by zero questions about the circumstances of the accident. An accident report and claim were immediately filed with police National General, respectively. On April 28 I replied to the claims adjuster's (Jimmy M******) email informing him of the location to which my vehicle had been towed, as he requested. I got my vehicle insured with National General and I was happy with the service at the beginning but I was looking for gap coverage and National General does not provide GAP coverage so I started looking for other auto insurance companies and I found one where I was able to get GAP coverage. I cancelled my policy with National General and I was told I would have to pay $50 cancellation fee because I cancelled my policy before the end of contract. This is such a rip off. It took them six months to handle my claim. The communication was terrible. Often I would leave a voicemail and over three weeks later, no return phone call! I lost my job because of their incompetence. Wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

I would not give them any stars. The very worse insurance company I have ever dealt with. We had the roof blow off our RV during a storm in Myrtle Beach. The storm was so bad it turned some campers over. The insurance is refusing to cover the RV. They are saying the maintenance was not done on the roof. I sent receipts of what was bought to Martian the roof and they say it was the wrong stuff. So there fore they refuse to pay. Sorriest excuse I have ever seen for a insurance company.

One of National Generals customers hit my car while it was parked in a parking lot. We had video of the entire accident. Lalinda W********* one of the claims agents completely ignores my calls and emails. The one time I have talked to her she promised me payment for the accident would be going out in a couple days. It has now been 2 months and still no check and no one has reached out to me. I have now called and left 6 voicemails to Lalinda and have sent her over 7 emails. I get completely ignored. No star's would be appropriate but that isn't an option. The claims adjuster doesn't return calls. You would figure in a 24/7 would someone would be available at 5pm in the afternoon. Just get the run around very unprofessional.
