The most important aspect of treating disorders of the hand and upper extremity is making an accurate diagnosis and then instituting the most conservative, least invasive and effective treatment algorithm. Most patients I see do NOT require surgery and can be cured with simple measures. I employ a team of nurses and cetified hand therapists all of whom share the goal of obtaining the best outcome we can, and returning our patients to work and play effectively and quickly

Dr. Bernstein did an excellent job repairing a severe wrist break and getting me back to being able to use my hand to it's fullest ability.
Dr. Bernstein did not rush a diagnosis but tested my wrist over a few months. He also sent me to a neurologist to verify the results. The carpal tunnel surgery went well, and recovery was as he explained to me. I was very happy with the results.
Dr. Bernstein is the most gentle, kind and understanding physician. I was extremely nervous for my “wide awake” carpal tunnel surgery and Dr. Bernstein sat with me before going into surgery. He spoke to me the entire time during the surgery and put me at ease. I had very minimal pain and my recovery was quick with no issues. I would highly recommend Dr. Bernstein as an orthopedic doctor!
Quick and easy process
I suffered with Trigger Thumb on my dominant hand for a year. I am an art teacher and teach pottery etc. I teach 500 elementary students how to create pinch pots by using my thumb. This is my 3rd operation for Duputren's and it was by far the best! Even though I had been through the procedure twice before with another surgeon, Dr. Bernstein took the time to make sure I understood & was comfortable with the entire process. Dr. Bernstien's staff, the Surgical Center in Guilford and the entire experience could not have been better. Dr. Bernstein is kind and professional. He took time to answer all of my questions. I could not close my hand. After the injection, the process was exactly as he had explained. I am now pain free and can close my hand with strength. Dr. Bernstein is the best!
I got the impression that my trigger finger wasn’t serious enough for his time. I met with the nurse and she demonstrated taping my finger and gave me a piece of paper explaining what trigger finger is. He was in and out in less than 3 minutes. I set up a follow up appointment and then decided he wasn’t worth my time either. Made an appointment with another doctor in group and met with her. A completely different experience. I’ve suffered with trigger finger for many years. Researched doctors and I choose the best. Dr Bernstein operated 6 weeks ago and it’s unbelievable how I can move my finger now. I make a living using hand tools and it’s truly amazing that I can use them again. My finger works now like it did before trigger finger. Dr Bernstein is a true professional who cares about his patients and is very talented at his profession. My only regret is I didn’t seek his help sooner.
