The most important aspect of treating disorders of the hand and upper extremity is making an accurate diagnosis and then instituting the most conservative, least invasive and effective treatment algorithm. Most patients I see do NOT require surgery and can be cured with simple measures. I employ a team of nurses and cetified hand therapists all of whom share the goal of obtaining the best outcome we can, and returning our patients to work and play effectively and quickly

Dr. Bernstein is outstanding! He did surgery on each of my wrists - one I broke (and needed a plate to repair it) and the other I had arthritis and a ruptured tendon. Both surgeries went very well - wrists are 100%. Not only is Dr. Bernstein a skilled surgeon, he is caring, compassionate, and he listens. I highly recommend Dr. Bernstein!!
I had a very uncomfortable experience at my first appointment with Dr. Bernstein and his staff. I had asked for a note in the medical history about my ability of not being able to travel due to my injuries; I needed it to request refunds for upcoming travel, which they said they could accommodate. Very knowledgeable. Surgery went very well along with PT. Dr. Bernstein is an outstanding doctor and surgeon. I highly recommend him.
Hopefully you never need hand surgery, but if you do, don’t hesitate to see Dr. Bernstein. I met Dr. Bernstein about 20 years ago after my wife broke her wrist and required a plate. He talked us through the entire procedure, answered all of our questions. The surgery went well and just as importantly, the physical therapy that followed was equally well attended to. I have been a patient of Dr. Richard A. Bernstein for approximately 7 months due to a carpel tunnel issue on my right hand. The Branford office personnel were very courteous and friendly. Dr. Bernstein performed the surgery in June, 2023 which went very well with very little discomfort after the surgery. There were pre-op visits for planning purposes as well as post-op visits to follow up on the recovery process. Dr. Bernstein was very thorough in explaining my injury (wrist fracture) and the treatment. During treatment, he took extra care to protect my healing wrist while I was dealing with another injury. Dr. Bernstein is also very personable and took time to listen and answer my questions.
Dr Bernstein quickly diagnosed the issue and moved rapidly to get it repaired before it became more complicated. The entire Process from 2 weeks pre-surgery to 5 months post-surgery was outstanding.
Dr. Bernstein diagnosed and treated my carpal tunnel with surgery. Surgery was fast, and relieved me from hand pain immediately. I followed Dr. N’s follow up recommendation and was back golfing without any pain. He did a great job can’t even see the scar.
