Hit or miss service and food, take your chances – I have mixed feelings about Rambutan. I've gone there and had great service and well prepared food, then another time I couldn't get anyone to take my order or bring water and the drunken-noodles were inedible due to the fact that every bite made my eyes water and I'm wimp! Overall, I'd be sure to make your spice request ultra-specific, skip the Pad Thai (not good), drinks are weak (order sake or beer), it's romantic, but not intimate due to close seating. Parking is non-exis... read more
Very disappointed – Being Asian, I am very picky about Asian food. After reading rave review about this restaurant and being in the top 10, I was expecting a place with great delicious food. I ordered tom yam soup with shrimp, panang shrimp and pad thai. The food is not authentic at all. The soup had no vegetable only a couple of shrimp, the panang shrimp was very bland and the pad thai tasted horrible. The price is $$$. I believed customers liked this place for its small but modern atmosphere and the bar counter.
Great Find. – Hidden in a Silver Lake mini-mall lies this gem of a restaurant. Rambutan offers a wonderful menu and a great eating environment. The cocktails are well thoughtout and the food is presented perfectly. Try the esan sausage and a Singha for a true taste of Thailand.
User review by mcolin21 – This is the best example of new American style Thai food anywhere. The menu is full of interesting and flavorful dishes. The traditional Thai dishes are as close to those I had in Bangkok and Phuket as you can get anywhere in LA. The room is well designed and the service is friendly. The bar is small so come close to reservation time.
Be Small, Be Prompt – If you find parking on the premisis, buy a lottery ticket cause it is your lucky day. Otherwise, bring some walking shoes for the hike down Sunset Blvd. Get there early enough to park and if you are a large party because they will give away part or all of your tables with no apology. Guess what, it's so busy they don't need your business. They only have a beer & wine license, so all cocktails are made with Soju. Tiger Beef, Spicy Eggplant & grilled shrimps were great. Pork chops were as dry as the wait ... read more
Cute..Very Cute – Went here on a date..so cute..I loved it.. Food was so very good, it was nice and dark, lychee drinks were awesome... decor was so cool..Great Place, can't wait to go back.. Now thats Hot..
decent thai, with a drive – had dinner here last night. the place is located in a little strip mall, so keep your eyes peeled or you'll pass it. the decor was nice, not overly done or with home-made art like some thai restaurants seem to do (what's up with that?) had the shrimp pad thai (pretty good, but a bit on the garlicy side) and the green curry with shrimp (also not bad, but not mind-blowing). ordered the pomegranate and mosquito bite drinks (both decent but a bit on the weak side). the service was good, the waitstaff ... read more
Great Thai food. – Accept no imitations! In a city that is frankly saturated with Thai restaurants, Rambutan is really the only option that's worth going out of your way for. The atmosphere is mellow and relaxing, the food is tasty, light and inexpensive, the service quick and attentive, and the waitresses, for lack of a better word, are hot-- a not unimportant consideration when it comes to Thai restaurants. Also, it's a good spot for a date-- classy, but also not a wallet-buster.
Sorry. Had a great time. – Had a B-Day party at Rambutan. Good food, great company and over-the-top service made this an incredible evening. Too much fun = a long drive home. Safe and sound - Good Night.
