worst hostess and service – i've only once before reviewed a restaurant-- it takes a lot for me to sit down and do this-- but rambutan was such a poor restaurant experience that i'm writing a lengthy review: the food and decor were both ok. but the food/decor cannot make up for the absolute worst service i have ever had at a restaurant in my life. the hostess was rude and even a bit catty-- highly inappropriate behavior at a restuarant. after telling us our wait would be 15-20 min, we waited 50 minutes for a table (at that p... read more

good food. great ambience. – this place is in a little mini-mall, but when you get inside.. it's so nice. the ambience is lovely. the decor is pretty/trendy. the food is tasty. they serve their food on big plates, so make room on your table. they have interesting dishes and they are served so artistically.

All Thaied Up – Rambutan is often great Thai food, and certainly better than a lot of the rest, but not always 100% on the money. Very trendy Silverlake hangout- almost always a wait, and kind of tough parking, especially on the weekends, but generally worth it. One nice thing is that you can specify white meat or dark (or mixed) when ordering chicken dishes. Oh, and did I mention they do takeout and delivery? If you live in the area, you really can't beat that. The prices are great, and when you have gift cards, it's even b... read more

Delicious Thai, enviable atmosphere – From the spring roll and beef appetizers to the cashew nut and kang dang curry, the food was undeniably delicious. The service was impeccable: friendly and constant, though not overbearing. The ambiance was quite pleasant: minimalistic, but not in that disgusting over-trendy way. And even with the restaurant nearly full, the noise level felt calm and not overbearing. Will definitely visit again. LA native friends have called it the "best Thai in the city."

Hip interior, luvly waitresses, mediocre food. – Uh, folks -- might I inject a little reality into this rating? If this rating reflects the Thai restaurant decor, yes, the 9.9 is deserved. Its dark, soothing ambience; its richly stocked bar; its minimalist decorative accents amounts to pure hip. If this rating reflects the comeliness of the waitresses, yes, the 9.9 is resoundingly well deserved, if not conservative. There isn't a more luvly lot of limbs in a Thai, other ethnic, or non-ethnic restaurant (including the vulgar,... read more

Imaginative and Sophisticated but not Pricy – There are some delicious dishes to be had here. Even the tired old classics have new life breathed into them at this tiny Silverlake gem. If you need any confirmation, just order the barbequed chicken. The service can be a little indifferent but every dish they bring you will make up for it. As far as the previous reviewer's comment that the location can be downright scary, I think that is absurd. Silverlake is no longer life on the edge and has a number of great little places to... read more

Incredible Thai Fusion, Elegant decor – Rambutan Thai was one of my very first stops in LA based on the high rating in the CityGuides. It certainly lives up to its marks. The food, while not authentic for the most part combines the incredible flavors of traditional Thai with nouvelle cuisine. They feature many tapas (small dishes) and the Crying Tiger Beef is nothing short of fantastic. As great as the food and the atmosphere are, there are drawbacks. The location is borderline scary for someone not used to the big city. The... read more

Romantic and great food – My boyfriend and I have been to Ramutan for the past two Valentine's days, and it's wonderful. The BBQ chicken is yummy, very romantic and swank interior, and great service. The only downside is that I with they would get rid of that Plasma TV in back of the bar- talk about a distraction!! It's a sore thumb in the midst of the beautiful decor. Other than the TV, and tight parking, this one is a great find!
