Brought my ford explorer in for an oil change. The Manager said my rear shocks were leaking and needed to be replaced as well as my front brakes were shot and rotors were below safe thickness and would cost $1000 to fix. I left and later took it to Firestone who inspected rear shocks and said there was NO leaks they were perfect. They inspected my brakes and front pads were at a 6 (10 is new at 2 they are shot) and rears were at 5. My rotors were fine as well. This is an absolute terrible p[lace of business. I took my wifes SUV to them on Fathers Day because they were the only place open. The Alternator had gone out in the car and needed to be replaced. They charged me $175.00 for the part and over $400.00 for the labor...they claimed the alternator was located in a tight location and they would have to remove the HVAC lines, which is why the labor cost were so high. Pep Boys lost my business. I went online and made an appointment for Monday at 8PM to have 4 new tires put on my car. E-mail says "Appointment's all set! See you at 8" basically. Received no further phone calls or e-mails. $1 hold places against my credit card. I drove to the store, parked, waited on line and then was told, at first, "we don't have any appointments for you." I went to the Dixwell Ave. Hamden CT. location to have a battery installed because it was a few years old and running down. the Manager told me they tested the alternator and it wasn't charging the battery. He quoted me a price and said they would install it. Having heard complaints from friends and family about this particular store I decided to have them just install the battery and go to my mechanic to have him test the alternator. After going to a Honda dealer for recalls and getting a courtesy brake check, I was told my brakes in the front were fine along with the drums and shoes for the rear of my vehicle. When I brought my car into this Pep Boys the first time, I was told I needed a new front brake job. The next time, I was told I needed a new rear brake job. Took my vehicle to them for diagnostics testing , when I asked for check engine codes, they would not let me look at the mechanic notes to make sure that they were actually looking at what may be wrong with vehicle.
Brought my car in for inspection. Was told it was going to fail because it needs new brakes and rotors. It was going to cost over $400. I had my brakes checked at my normal trusted guy a few months prior and they were fine. I told the representative that their check didn't match my other trusted mechanic and i was going to get a second opinion . All of a sudden they reevaluated and passed my cars inspection . In the morning I scheduled an appointment with Pep boys @4:00 PM for oil change. I got the confirmation from them in the morning and i traveled 10 miles to "6325 Fallbrook Ave, Woodland Hills, CA 91367" for oil change. FYI - My car had oil change sign on and i was travelling with my sick kid..
