Soul food first timers come here – Kevin Parker did it right when he established this great soul food spot. The place is new, clean, and hip, yet the food was still phenomenal. Fried chicken was great. Homemade sweet iced tea is tasty and comes in this huge take-home water bottle although it gets a bit sweet towards the end. It's busy on Sunday with the after-church crowds, but it was worth the wait for me.

Ms. Tootsie's Is Well Worth The Wait – The Food at Ms. Toostie's is sooooooooooo good. I always get the catfish, yams, mac and cheese, iced tea (the best!) and for dessert sweet potato cheese cake. The staff there is very friendly from the moment you walk in until you are leaving on a full stomach, which you are guaranteed to walk out with. You get so much food for such a reasonable price and the atmosphere is just perfect, though the restaurant is a bit too small. This is a perfect place for a first date or just a nice even... read more

Ready your appetite!!! – Your best bet is to come with an empty stomach or be ready to get a "doggy bag"! There is so much delicious food on your plate! I recommend the smothered pork chops and the sweet tea!!! Enjoy!!

User review by tlh75 – I really enjoyed the food @ Ms. Tootsie's. Everyone was very nice my husband & I felt like we were home. Everyone made you feel like you were welcomed. My husband ordered the catfish. The catfish was very tastey!! I had the fried chicken! Which was also good! The only thing I did not like was that it is very small in there. I felt like I was sitting tooooo close to the other customers. It was cozy but toooo cozy. I think Ms. Tootsie's should think about getting a larger place. Besides that I really enj... read more

Your Soul (and Stomach) Will Thank You – One can surely miss Ms. Tootsie's while driving down South St. The inside decor is beautiful! My boyfriend and I were seated immediately and given hot homemade biscuits moments after. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was very attentive, helpful and kind. I ordered Fried Chicken which came with two sides. Our drinks came plastic water-bottles to take home as souvenirs! Our food arrived promptly. The portions of the food were UNBELIEVABLE. Entrees run from $12 - $25 but they're ... read more

A mixed review from a southerner – As a person from the south (NC), I am quite critical of eateries proclaiming to serve southern quisine, but dish out mediocre resemblances. As for Ms. Tootsie's food, I would have to fly my mama up to NY to slap her! Everything was good, except for the canned biscuits that arrived after our leftovers were in a take home container. I was also disappointed that on a cold day in November I had to sit in my car to wait for a table. Do make reservations. The service had much to be desired. It wa... read more

Highly Recomended – Ms. Tootsies is a place I'll definitely return to with friends. The food was great! Unbelieveably good, especially the Iced Tea...get the large and you'll be refilled constantly and have a full sports cup to leave with. You may want to split an entree so that you have room to try dessert. The atmosphere was classy but not pretentious. Definitely a good place to take a date to show how low-key, down to earth and real you are. Love the bathroom, nicely decorated and very clean. Most likely the best public b... read more

Better than your mama's – I fell in love with this restaurant. The food was fresh. I never experienced collard greens that seem to melt in your mouth. This is no greasy spoon soul food spot. The Ambience is mellow(almost romantic) It's very small so make a reservation. You won't be disapointed. Also buy the $5 Ice tea(non alcoholic). It's worth it trust me.
