Twenty years ago, this European-style restaurant was filled with the warehouse workers from the area. Today, The Monte is still packed, but the clientèle has more white collars than blue. The copper bar is 50 feet long; it is worth the visit just to see it. The menu is big on American fare, with burgers, salads and deli-style sandwiches. I took my mom there for Christmas dinner and it was really lovely. Food was great, service was too! The one drawback I will mention is how close we had to sit to another table with a large party in the middle of the restaurant. They got really noisy and it started to get difficult to have a conversation with my mom! Good thing we were finishing up.
Sat at the bar with my friend Fred. Outstanding Martinis and service. Loved the ambience of this place. Looking forward to my next visit to sit down and eat after reviewing the glorious menu!!!!!

Very good service and drink � very friendly bar I'd go again
One of the most consistent, enjoyable outings in my North Loop neighborhood. It's been here longer than i can even remember; shakes and pours a terrific (and generous) martini; has chopped liver and chicken wings that will knock your sox off--and offers a great, relaxed weekend brunch on top of it all. The bar is beautiful and must be seen in person. Go!
The service was terrible, the server spilled water all over the table and just walked away without cleaning it up. (Had to ask him for napkins so I could clean it up myself) We ordered the club sandwhich which consisted of basic lunch meat and cheap store bought cheese also order the open face meatloaf sandwhich which was also terrible and tasteless. High prices for terrible service and food. Never would go back again.
