I rented a car from Hertz that broke down when we arrived to our overnight accommodations. They were unwilling to bring us a new car (they offered for one of us to go with the tow truck driver back to the airport at midnight to get a new one ourselves - yeah, no thanks). We just had them come collect it and were told we would get a full refund. Terrible customer service. Didn't have the same credit card at the airport that I booked with and they refused to give me the car or issue a refund. Told us they had nothing available and left us with no car.

On June 5, 2021 I rented a car from Thrifty, which is owned by Hertz. I picked up the car at Los Angeles Innternational Airport. I returned it on June 6 as agreed, with a full gas tank. Two weeks after the rental charge had been applied and the contract closed, I received a statement by mail for a fuel charge totaling $90.93. I called Thrifty immediately and was told I didn't owe the money. I rented a vehicle online from Hertz for $99/day. When I arrived in Atlanta the receptionist offered me a Tesla for $150/day. She said," I could get this vehicle for you for $150/day. I figured sounds good to me. She proceeded to have me sign the pin pad indicating as such. I drove off BUT upon returning the vehicle I noticed that I was being charged $1800 & change. The customer service at Hertz is atrocious. We accidently took a key home to Seattle from OKC and I left numerous messages once I got to the airport and realized I still had the key with various branches, the airport, etc.. and no one called us back. I left several follow up messages the following day, still nothing. I called the 1-800 number and after we explained the situation the gal on the phone said to return it and they would refund us the charge of $200. This Hertz location has poor customer service, does not provided customers with information that is needed about the rentals, such as they upcharge gas replacement at 9.99 per gallon which is gouging at it's best. Also the staff has poor customer service skills. And please don't call and expect a phone call back to explain why your credit card was charged without your consent cause you will be waiting till the end of time. Worst company/location.

Hertz is a rip off. The first car they gave me was defective. When they brought the second one, instead of taking it to the Albuquerque airport where I rented it from, it was sent to Ohio. Not only did they charge me for the second car, which I'm not disputing, but they also charged me over $1,200 for taking the first car to Ohio. I will never rent from Hertz or any of their other companies again and I urge anyone else to rethink using them in case this happens to them. It's now up to my credit card co!!!

I would advise against renting a vehicle from Hertz. They are the absolute worst. I did not agree to their insurance, they charged me $40/day for it anyway (my credit card provides rental car insurance). They would not refund the charge. They charged me an extra $60/day to return the car to a different location from where I picked up (while picking up the car, I notified them I'd be returning to a different location, clerk did not care about location and stated that it could be returned to any one). Unresponsive customer service. Hertz rented me a vehicle with over 55,000 miles on the odometer. During my rental the key fob became inoperative and would not unlock the doors. The lock cylinder for the physical key was also broken. I could not unlock the car. I was stranded at a remote location with no cell service after completing an 85 mile backpacking trip. The vehicle also had no spare tire. Hertz Customer Service has been unresponsive to my request for customer satisfaction.
