Hertz has deceptive rental agreements. Even if you pay in advance and all of the details of your rental are clearly stated, they still charge your card extra fees after the fact. I asked the customer service rep to tell me exactly where on the pages of the rental contract is the extra intercity fee explained. He said it was not on the contract, that it is a verbal agreement at the time you pick up the vehicle. My contract clearly states that I would pick up the vehicle in Charlotte to return in Raleigh. I had a bad experience with Hertz Corner Brook NL. I needed a car the turbo went in my SUV. Because of COVID restrictions being lifted there were no car rentals, so the Dealer who was dealing with my SUV got me one. I had it 24 hours and on my way back a Semi passed me and a rock cracked the windshield. I told them what happens all well and good. I would live 0 star if I could. I do not recommend booking with this company. I had a trip planned to Portland and booked an car through them a month prior to going. Not even 24 hours before picking up the car Hertz called me to tell me that they had no more cars available, they had overbooked. I rented a vehicle with a good price through hotwire.com. When I approached the counter , the Hertz rep was not friendly at all and seems like he did not appreciate that I purchased a rental via a third party. He asked me "Just basic", I said yes thinking what he mean was just basic and no additional items needs to be added. Can I give negative stars? I rented an Infinity QX80 which was not inexpensive and within the first 24 hours had a dead battery and no one at Hertz was able to help me. They refused to deliver a car that runs, they sent me 30 miles away to try to replace the bad battery on THEIR car. when I got there the place had no batteries that would work. I had to have my brother jump it every day with Jumper cables just so I could participate in the few daily functions that I had to drive to. They just refused to help me then basically... read more

You apparently need to have perfect credit to rent a car if you use your debit card for payment. They run a credit check on you if you don't have a credit card to pay with that they can put a $300 hold on. This policy was not disclosed to me when I booked or confirmed my reservation. It's ridiculous! I was in a bind and they refused to help me, even with a $500 hold on my debit card for a $200 reservation! I reserved a rental car through my insurance company with Hertz to use while my car was being repaired. I received a confirmation from Hertz to be picked up the day my car was to be dropped off for repair. The message asked that I call at least one hour prior to for pickup. I began trying to contact Hertz at 8am, allowing for two hours prior to pickup. After about 6 calls, at 9:15pm the phone was picked up and I was immediately put on hold. Terrible and illegal business practices! I reserved a van for a week at $48 a day the week before I was to pick it up. 2 Hours before I was to pick it up ( I was on my way there) I got a TEXT message saying they had no availability of vans and where canceling my reservation! Well I looked and they did have vans available to rent but now they where $96 a day! THEY WANT TO CHARGE YOU TO TALK TO A RENTAL AGENT! DON'T RENT from these crooks!!! There employees give them a 2.5 star rating, must be bad to work for too.

I have been trying to get in contact with a member of management about an issue I had awhile ago. I was charged $2350.24 for one month following the same time I was charged $1631.99 for two months. I was told the third month would be the same rate as the first two months when I rented the car. I had the same car for the entire time with no lapse in time.
