We will NEVER rent from this location EVER again. We had a mini van reservation for $798 total for a one week. We wanted something larger but they were sold out online. When we got to Hertz, we asked the agent checking us in if he had anything bigger that we didn't see on line. They did! We were super excited. WOW*is all I can say! Rented my car for a off grid vacay, tire light came on within an hour or so after I picked up the vehicle, we were already on the road at this point so we just aired up all the tires and proceeded to our destination...the air tire light was pointing to the passenger front tire! Got to our off grid destination (off grid meaning no WiFi or cell service) woke up the next day for our hiking excursion and the tire light was on once again, our choices were waiter air it up or drive 2 hours to the nearest town... read more

Scammers! Paid what we thought was in full of the week we rented a vehicle. Representative tried to get us to upgrade. Told us he was upgrading for free because my husband was military. Receipt said we paid $386 and I told him we already paid $405. He told us that charge would be taken off and this was the new charge. My husband signed the receipt. My family had a car rented in San Juan, PR in July,2021. We were scheduled to pickup it up at Marriott hotel,instead of airport,for a normal price of $330 for week. When we got to hotel to pickup, we were told that site had closed few weeks earlier due to covid. We could not reach Hertz at airport. This company does not take safety seriously. Put me in a mini van with almost 50,000 miles. When breaking the car would wobble during normal breaking and pull during aggressive breaking. I returned the car and informed them of the safety issue. They said since I didn't call road side assistance and just returned it there was nothing they could do for me but a $50 gift certificate. I borrowed a car from this location for 4 days and during those 4 days, I dealt with a MALFUNCTION warning with a neverending tone. I took it to a Pittsburgh location since that was where I was for most of those 4 days and they "didn't have any cars for me". This review is really a review for Hertz as a "national" corporation rather than an individual review on just the Newark location- the folks at the Newark location were actually quite nice about the situation but couldn't provide any solutions. Horrid customer service. More akin to highway robbery than a business. Went to pick up rental at 1130pm at MSP from a completely incompetent employee. Asked for my phone number several times despite having a reservation. Charged for all insurance against my will. Was told to take it or leave it. Rental inside windshield was so smudged it was hard to see through.. Rented a car from Hertz in Arizona in August with temperatures exceeding 100f. The air conditioning broke and then the battery died. Hold times for the 24 emergency service exceeded one hour and the representatives offered no solution other than to buy a battery and replace it and drive 100 miles to exchange the car. We drove to the new location only to find they did not have any cars. Had to drive 400 miles with children to exchange the car without air-conditioning in 105 degree weather. We (4 people) had a flight to Denver on 8/13/21 that was canceled. We did not go. Tried to cancel our car with Hertz but they refused to return our 700.00. After many calls they still refused. They are SCAMERS of the worst kind.
