Very encouraging 1st visit! We immediately connected on bicycles & active lifestyles! Dr Joel is personable and empathetic. As an active senior with severe osteoarthritis I have seen lots of good surgeons and so far he’s my favorite. Very tuned in to the patient’s needs. Was encouraging about my prognosis and recovery prospects for reverse shoulder replacement. “You will adapt because that’s what you do,” he said. Dr Thompson is a special doctor. He is knowledgeable, open and honest with his analysis. He sincerely cares about his patients health, levels of pain and treatment options. The long wait time is because he is listening and paying attention to his patients. IMO I don’t think he’s on corporate time stamp for patients. Dr Thompson is on caring for your patient time. Kind of a rare experience these days. Good for Doctor Joel. I give him five stars plus ++

Dr. Thompson did surgery on both my thumbs many years ago. He did a great job & is so pleasant to talk to. He LISTENS!! My husband & I look forward to our appointments with him. I highly recommend him!
Since Dr Thompson joined Tucson Orthopedic Institute (TOI), he and his staff remain very professoinal, caring and available to their patients. TOI could do a better job with check-in to avoid long lines and it is almost impossible to find a parking space at their East Office - not good.
Dr Thompson was amazing throughout my shoulder care. Surgical outcome far beyond expectations @ 3 months post-op!
I would absolutely recommend dr Thompson. he and his staff explained what had to be done in my rotator cuff surgery. He is easy to understand and most of all listened to any and all my concerns and what to expect. Thank you so much ,
