Beautiful space and food. But taste? – Went with a group for birthday celebrations a couple of weeks ago. The space is beautiful - picture perfect flower arrangements, a gorgeous staircase. We had balcony seating which made the views more impressive. But the food just wasn't what I was expecting. It was good, but I wasn't expecting good - I was expecting WOW. I had the tuna appetizer, which was good but too salty (and I love salty food, so this is a really rare complaint from me). The veal carpaccio was also good. For my mai... read more
Great food, great service – I went here for a special occasion a few weeks ago and while very expensive the service in all areas(we had an entire waitstaff - 4 people for our table alone) and the food was excellent. The pork chop was impressively good and the pasta tasting menu for the table was great. Its a grand space as well. A great experience overall.
Overall excellent – Cool location, chic design, nice wine selection. Food excellent- I recommend the pasta trio (3 types of pastas to taste for the table-you can even specialize it per person), Lamb for 2 a must! These are real portions which is rare so be careful not to order too much food. They bring a "candy" cart around at the end of meal-gratis-so if you need a little something sweet but don't have enough room for dessert. Keep your eye out for Lydia and ask to sit in the front room!
Overpriced, unremarkable food with horrible hosts -- try Cookshop – We had reservations at 9:30 and were not seated until 10:15. The hosts did not come to apologize once, they did not even apprise us of the status of our table while we were at the bar. We had to inquire twice and were lied to both times. The wait staff, however was very attentive. The food was probably the least remarkable of all of Batali's restaurants. His pastas here were the best things to order, but nothing was terribly exciting on the menu and the real... read more
Bad food; great ambience – Agree with most reviewers---the food is surprisingly mediocre (and I am a fan of Babbo & Lupa) but the dining experience is great?synchronized service, attention to detail, etc. The crowd is older and more formal...not the usual downtown vibe. I think the chef needs to realize that people in New York are pretty discerning. They won?t keep coming because of the famous chef if the food does not live up to expectations.
Delicious, Terrific but at a Price – Truly a special event place, and we were celebrating a birthday. The service was outstanding - everyone was very gracious and eager to please. The amuse bouches which started our evening displayed an abundance the restaurant excelled in. Our starter of the ricotta gnudi was delicious - and enough to split. The main dish of the veal chop was done to perfection with roasted and flavorful asparagus accompanying. The meal was accompanied by a wine recommended by the first female sommelier(e) ... read more
Extremely Disappointed – I was looking foward to our dinner, but was extremely disappointed by the service. First of all, we had a reservation for 9:00 o'clock but ended up waiting until 9:30 to be seated. The atmosphere was good but food was overpriced. The worst thing was when one of my guests was about to leave, she realized that someone had stolen her wallet out of her handbag while we were eating. Del Posto basically told us they couldn't do anything about it. Beware of theives.
Go for The Experience and Ambiance, Not The Food – The restaurant is gorgeous, the wine is good and the staff is attentive (if not a bit intrusive and, I will admit our waiter said a few really strange things). Everything before dessert is disappointing. The spaghetti and crab comes drenched in oil and has a few small-meatless pieces of crab in it. The Bolognese is uninspiring with soggy pasta. The salads are basic (and worth 5% of the price, if that) and the Carpaccio was nothing more than raw meat in mustard. It's a nice r... read more
This is Batali's Place???? – I was really looking forward to this meal as were my companions and boy, were we disappointed. From the moment we entered, the service was substandard. No one asked to take our coats (hard to believe), we were left sitting at the table for 10 minutes before any one came by (and it wasn't busy) and when they did, they were less than attentive. In fact, at times they were downright rude. Other complaints were the cost of the wine...hardly anything under $100.00/bottle in the reds, and although the ... read more
