Banfield’s in-house pet insurance is a scam that promises savings. In reality, discounts are only on their inflated rack-rate prices and net prices are still not competitive. Furthermore, they will charge you for a deceased animal or times when they are closed or “too busy” to fit you in. They asked me to drop off my pet rather than stay with him, and when I picked him up after a $500 bill for “blood work” and unnecessary vitamins I discovered he was unable to walk. We have been with Banfield for 13 years and have had the Optimal Wellness Plan the whole 13 years. On Wednesday we had to put our beloved chihuahua down which we did at Banfield. We have had wonderful service through the Mt Laurel location. However, when I called the appropriate service location to cancel her plan I was told I had to pay the balance of services that would have been through to January 31st 2022. I took my dog to Banfield in Frederick, MD on Urbana Pike on May 25th, 2021. They only had drop off available and I thought that was great because I wouldn’t have to miss work and I could pick her up after. I have never had any issues with drop off before so I made the mistake in them fully taking care of my pet. When I picked her up. It was around 4:50-5:00 pm I noticed my dog top snout a bit red. I typically don't write reviews but felt this was very necessary. I've been coming to this over for over a year now, since moving here. At first (prior to covid) I never had an issue with the office or Dr Higgins. Staff was always pleasant and friendly. however, I've noticed a change in front staff (a lot) and a few months ago I scheduled my 4 dogs to have their annuals visits. Worst company to have pet insurance. I have been trying to reach out for an appt for 2 months, I had left messages with no return call, not the vm is full and won't accept new messages. They never answer their phones or call back and when they did answer (about 5 months ago) their appts were out 2 to 3 months. I just called the Wellness plan team and the "Supervisor Kris" only offered to cancel my insurance or I could call their Care Team. What a WASTE!! Awful. They take $ but don’t provide service. I pay monthly fees for 2 dogs and then I try to make an appt for anal gland expressions and nails and I was told come in for a couple of hours on Wednesday and they would try to fit me in. I work for a living so I can’t wait a couple of hours on the chance of being fit in. Apparently, anal gland and nails is not a medical appt. my dog Daphne gets infections in her anal glands. I do not recommend this hospital for anyone who loves their pet. They do not give care to what they do. I have taken my dog there before the Pandemic and they do not allow you to sit and comfort your pet while being examined by the doctor. IT is strange that they do not want you to see how your pet is being regarded. Most times the customer service rep is on the phone talking to friends and not paying attention to a customer's needs. I onlt left on star because I had to. Don't sign up. They talked me into signig up for their wellness plan, for my 10 year old dog when she became ill, it was going to save me money they said. 5 days later we had to put her down. I am now on the hook to pay for a years worth the coverage we will never use.

I was talked into their monthly plan and signed up for the service for my 2 cats. That is the key word, :"service:" I am paying monthly for services not received. When you enter a contract for cash for services, you would expect exactly what you pay for. Only now I have paid for it over and over for nothing. As far as them calling this a hospital, that is incorrect. If anything it is a clinic. Don't expect anything but shots and flea medicine any thing beyond that I am told they are not equipped for.
