I rented a vehicle from the SFO location back in October 2021. The agent desk is on a different terminal than the parking garage so we were given the keys in the airport and took ourselves to the garage via train. There was no agent to meet us in the parking garage and I found it a little strange. Any other time I have rented a car an agent has done an inspection with us before we drive off the lot. This was the first time we rented a car from Avis which occurred in December 2021. Compared to other rental car companies, I would rate Avis services 1 star and that's being generous. In January 2022, we received a letter from Avis rental location charging our credit card for tire damages that we had no knowledge about. We know we dropped off the vehicle in good condition so this charge was a surprise. I had a rental agreement with AVIS through ********* for $400 but my flight was delayed previously and unable to make it to my destination hours away. The original agreement was for unlimited miles, but they would not honor my previous rental agreement and charged me $1000 to rent a car. Upon return and a month later, they sent me notification that there was damage and would charge me $284 a week post letter date to my card on file. This business is misrepresenting their vehicles by renting subcompact SUV's as if they are mid-size SUVs for the same price. I reserved a mid-size SUV for rental and paid for that price. However, what I received is a Buick Encore, which is considered a subcompact SUV. When I questioned AVIS, their customer service section stated that this vehicle is a mid-size SUV and that they go by Kelly Blue Book (KBB) for how they classify the vehicle, not by the manufacturer's classification. We rented an Avis car for our annual Denver ski vacation. The agent upgraded us to a NEW 2022 Suburban. We drove to our hotel parked the car to unload and get ready for dinner. When we went back to car for dinner it was dead. Wouldn't even turn over. We paid **** to take family of 6 to dinner and back. Valet tried to jump the car for us, with no luck. We were stranded at our hotel couldn't even ski like we had planned because we couldn't get to our destination. We called road side assistance to come help us the following day... read more

AI returned a vehicle to Avis in Grand Rapids Mi on 1-27 after a week rental from 1-20. On MARCH 10 I received a letter that stated they would be charging me 345 dollars for "glass damage". As you may have guessed by my tone, there was NO damage to this vehicle when I dropped it off. After being offered 50% off (???) this imaginary damage bill and a protracted argument on the with a "customer service" supervisor. The charge was removed. I consider this to be an attempted theft. I was put on a "do not rent" list- After several calls and emails to the company not one person can tell me why I was put on the list. I asked to speak to a supervisor to no avail. No call back or anything. I have never received any emails, phone calls or letters stating that I have ever had an issue with a car I have rented. I would suggest that no one rents from this business. They obviously do not care about customers.

Our Avis car would not start and had electrical problems a the morning after we rented it. Avis sent out a person who jumpstarted the car but the problems, including intermittent loss of powersteering, continued. We reveived a replacement car after a hairy drive to Clearwater airport. Avis then had the audacity to charge my credit card 218 dollars for the jumpstart. When I protested I was informed that I had not signed up for roadside assistance and that the charge was valid. We prepaid and rented a car on February 13th from this location. When we picked the car up we were charged for the rental and a additional hold was placed on our account as expected. The car was due back at 12pm on February 19th. My husband took the car back before 11:20am on the 19th when it was due and the car was checked out by the attendant and CLEARED.
