I only gave one star as there are no negative stars. I have used Avis for 10 years and the last two rentals were extremely bad, overcharged after the fact, showed the vehicle provide with 1/2 a tank of gas and was told it would be noted for my return. I filled up anyway to make sure and they charged me over $200 for refueling! I called and was placed on hold for an hour, when the representative said they could credit me a portion only after the third degree about where and how much I filled it up. Car had multiple lights on when picked up. Also got a flat and the vehicle had no spare tire. Cost me $400 to get it to a shop and replace the tire. Very unprofessional to not have a spare and charge me to get it to a shop. Sounds like a scam to me

When I became an **** member, I was excited to see that Avis offers discounts to **** members. For a recent trip to Missouri, I rented a car from Avis and picked it up at the Springfield/Branson airport. The man at the front desk asked me if I wanted to save time by purchasing an additional tank of gas so that I wouldn't have to refill the tank before bringing the car back and I did. Nope. Price gouging. Tried to edit reservation online and it showed $52+ for one extra day but wouldn't let me edit reservation there so I called and spoke to a rep. He verified the charge, the total cost but when I dropped the car off, they had charged me an additional $470+ for it, almost double my original 5-day rental total! I was charged $135 without authorization on my card months after I returned a car. They claim it was for a tire repair. If it was something I did, they should have notified me at least within a few days. They can't give me any proof it was me and anything could have happened to a tire. I read other headlines about this and it's apparently a common scam with this company.

I recently rented a car at the DCA rental center. I received a car with a strong air freshener smell. I drove the car 15 minutes to my hotel and parked the car overnight. When I got in the car the next day, I noticed the smoke smell. It got progressively worse as the day continued, and I even had a colleague comment on how bad the car smelled when they opened the trunk. I rented a car from April 1st until April 8th. The agreement was I pick up the car from the Chattanooga,TN airport and return it to the Memphis,TN airport. First, I keep receiving emails from their loss prevention from their Chattanooga airport showing the car was not returned. Renting a car and the car itself was not of any issue with AVIS. But once you return the car they start showing their true colors. I usually rent cars when I travel via air to different cities for work/leisure and never ever had this issue with any other rental companies. While returning car at LAX there was a representative whom I showed the gas indicator being full. Beware of etoll billing even if you did a prepaid for the reservation and selected etoll unlimited services and been charged for that option, they will still charge you for tolls separately. Read your rental agreement and make sure you have the selected services you choose on the prepaid billing before signing. I was charged a fee for selecting etoll unlimited on my prepaid reservation and then was charged for tolls separately.
