They're processing for payments on the rental cars are horrible. When I first started renting through them they took $345.49 out of my account every Monday. I drive for **** so they gave me a faulty car. The car did start due to the key fob dying they towed it. I have been having a hard time with Avis billing. I believe it may have to do with short staff or billing system is not working properly. I use Avis with a major company and I have been renting from them constantly. Which each time I have to call in about something and it's a painful 2 hour waiting to get nothing resolved. Rented a big van from Avis. There were no cup holders in the back and trash had been stuffed in the holes. There was a smell when we opened the doors to the van and had to put air fresheners in there to try and help. There was something all over the air vents. Candy was underneath the seats from previous renters. Whomever cleaned it needs a lesson in cleaning. I'm not even sure it was cleaned because we had to vacuum it out. I don't smoke. My husband doesn't smoke. So can anybody explain how I got hit with a $450 fee for smoking in the car? They have absolutely no evidence and it's astonishing they can get away with this. If you don't want to get hit by a surprise fee of $450 for absolutely no reason, avoid AVIS like the plague.
I have rented from Avis for about 5 years and have always had a good experience with them. In January of this year, my car was broken into in California and they made it as easy as I think they could for me to switch cars with no additional charges. I thought I had found a large soul-less corporation that could be mine for good. I picked up a car in Cincinnati at an understaffed location on Galbraith Road. Three days into the rental (in Louisville by then), I got into the car and noticed a dragging sensation as soon as I started moving; the plastic undercarriage had come loose and was dragging the pavement, curling up under the car. I had not hit anything or had an accident. I called roadside assistance who arranged a tow truck and a 2nd car at the airport, which all took about 2 1/2 hours. I reserved an economy car on the Avis website at a rate of $118.70 for pickup at 2480 49th street, Boulder Colorado. When I arrived at the 2480 49th street Avis shop at the specified time I was made aware that the car I reserved was not available. The only thing available was an SUV. The employee I dealt with was gruff and I feel he did an awful job explaining the upcharge for a larger car. The absolute worst customer service, management and vehicle operations EVER! I could write a book on the terrible rental experience I had and the most ridiculously non-trained, careless and unprofessional staff, from the rude agent at the desk, to the careless workers who are "supposed" to clean the cars, to the disasterous customer service reps and their managers, to the incompetent people at their roadside assistance division.
