My recent Avis rental experience definitely ranks up there as one of the worst travel experiences I've ever had. Paid for a "premium" car, but the Toyota Avalon they gave me smelled like an ash tray, and it had this nasty lime-scented air freshener pinned to one of the vents. Also, driver's center vent was not operational. A few days into the rental the right rear tire blew. They are trying to double charge me claiming there is damage to the car I rented. They never even let me know. I discovered 2 extra charges on my credit card. This is a scam as I took pictures of the vehicle when I returned it. There was no damage to it. Shouldn't you alert a customer before you charge them. I did not authorize these charges.

Used to be a reputable company - now the worst. Had an advance reservation for a car in Arcadia, CA (a franchise, it turns out) at 8:30 am. Arrived and told there WERE NO CARS. No apologies, just basically "suck it up and wait." At best, if the next return arrived on time (no guarantee), I'd be out of there by 10:30. I had to suggest that that they transfer my reservation to a Burbank airport, about 25 minutes away, which would take a while but at least we knew that we'd eventually get a car. No one will help you if you are stranded on the side of the highway. After my recent experience of car problem with AVIS, I will never use them again. The only option was to have the tow truck meet me, and I ride with the tow truck to the closest AVIS. After being stranded on the side of the highway, I decided to drive the car at 10mph on the shoulder to the nearest exit 5 miles away, which was extremely unsafe, just as I was unsafe sanding at the side of the road.Once I got off the highway I looked at the car and the metal ... read more

In August rented a car for a week just to get from Orlando parks to the coast to meet up with family. We rented from an off-site,located in a hotel lobby. Booked in advance and was quoted a low amount of $239 after searching for hours. Thought it was too good to be true but booked it. It was a "Pay Later", with no other option. Just left the location in Federal Way, WA without coming to an agreement. Reserved a compact car but they informed me that they had already rented it. I could rent another car from their lot but it would cost me additional money. The reasoning was that I was there at 2pm instead of 12, shown on the reservation. There was no attempt to contact me or let me know there would be an additional charge or that my car was no longer available. This is a poor business practice and will not attempt to rent from Avis in the future.

I picked up Avis rental car at Miami International airport on August 7, 2022. Car was filthy , dirty inside out. I was told car can be washed in 30 min or longer if I wait. How many people can wait that long if there is minimum 30 min waiting time? Survey Response I received was " sorry for the inconvenience "

Went to get my rental at the airport that was rented, confirmed, and already charged my charge card, and I was told they sold out over a week ago and they did not have a car for me. They blame Priceline. But I even went on Avis.com and it showed cars available and the desk lady told me they were wrong. I truly believe they did not want to honor the price I got thru Priceline . There was no communication to tell me they were sold out till I got there. And they were no help to help me find another solution. They could careless... read more

Avis rental car is straight crooks. They need to be investigated and shut down. Class action suit desperately needed against this corrupt company. If it was done to me easily then it was done to others as well.
